meth...the big unknown
WRONG. Water does NOT add more timing/boost. METHANOL allows you to run more timing. I am going to give you FACTS now that you asked for them, and you can give me my 1000 dollars for proving you wrong. Let me explain it really simple. Running STRAIGHT washer fluid allows you to up your timing a couple degrees, that couple of degrees amounted with the lower iat2's is a power gain.
Now, for the next step. Spraying STRAIGHT water will NOT make you lose power... But the main fact here is that spraying just straight water does NOT lower your power out put.
... but I can tell you that spraying just straight water will NOT lower your power.

This is the exact confusion I'm talking about. This guy thinks that spraying water in your motor:
a. won't make HP drop
b. won't allow more timing to be run
Clearly people that have followed these posts understand my frustration. How can I debate with all of you when you are all saying different things. You are all posting random statements and calling me the dumb ass for posting scientific data. Is there no one here that cares about their car's performance or learning anything? Is it possible to have a rational discussion without the entire contribution of posters being "fail"? Is this forum really that bad?
tune and meth ftw
im with you as there are some dumb ass guys on here that dont understand. Thats why some of us go to school and get to learn what is right from wrong
OK, so we are back to the beginning then. You are arguing with me as are dozens of other people. The problem is that these other people who completely disagree with you will not come out to debate you because you're disagreeing with me, which is all they want. As long as you members are going to allow this, progress will never be made.

MY car... WOT 2nd Gear Pull.... don't mind the knock in between shifts it is due to my check valve that has failed so it takes a bit for it to start spraying again durring upshifts!

2.7 car... WOT 2ng Gear Pull
::shakeshead::
This isn't my first rodeo... that issue has been resolved. And enlighten me what doesn't look right...
Yes there is information that I am withholding... for a reason!
This thread is for a drop in IAT's, MAF, and MAP settings not my knock issue while I was ironing out the 2.7 pulley!

o you were on a 2.7...well you didnt mention all that...of course your going to expect some kind of knock on a 2.7...im all about the 2.7....if i was supercharged..whcih im not "im turbo" i would run the 2.7 all day and all night with a good amount of meth...so now i understand
just h/e and no meth...wtf?
2.7's need some kind of additive or alot of extra fuel

Not everyone has direct access to methanol like you Stu...
I however cannot... but I did find out that 5 bottles of heet roughly equals 1/2 gallon albeit expensive but for those that cannot get it...
Zooooomer I can get equal RPM sheets... you'll just have to wait untill I get home from work!
Area we had this discussion, and you are correct my MSDS sheet on the brand I carry at Home Depot is higher than 33%!
And Stu if you can get it... can you get me a couple gallons and ship it to me? I have no one CLOSE at all that I can get pure methanol from!
And I'll pay ya of course!

speaking of giving out info, here's some more tech info in an attempt to have information rather than flames. It would take 5 bottles of Heet added to 1 gallon of -5 blue washer fluid to have a 50/50 mix of methanol/water
Back on topic. Blueberry actually is posting up data. Thanks. But the 2 graphs are not at the same rpm. If I want to compare say MAP between the 2 I can't. One has a MAP value of 210 and one is 221 but since one graph marker is at 7k rpm and one is at 5600, no direct comparison can be made. Blueberry, can you set the rpm to the SAME on both? 6k, 6500, 7k whatever. Just so both are the same and one chart can be accurately compared to the other?
zoomer if you are trying to compare IAT's at an identical rpm, its not that difficult. just look at the line. the non-meth car is hovering right around 140 on the entire graph, the other is obviously MUCH cooler
it is comparing iat's not map, maf, rpm, kr, timing, or whatever else aside from iat's.
AS i said before. not all windshield washer fluid is the same mixture.

so when people stop thinking that just because it's off the shelf, it's identical to another mixture the sooner people can move on.

Here's an example: you have two blowers Let's call them A and B. Then you want to know which is moving more air. You look at two scans and compare boost. You know that they are running the same pulley size but you see that on an identical engine with scans posted by a guy on a forum that blower A has 1 more PSI of boost. What can you deduce from that?
Well, if you don't know that there is more you need to know, you would think that the car making 1 more psi is moving more air. In fact, I would guess than most members on this forum would believe that blower A is better because it's making 1 more pound of boost. I would then come in and say "you don't know that" This would be followed by ridicule and guys posting "if two builds are the same and one has 1 more pound of boost, it will make more power" and we would go through 10 pages of people telling me I'm a retard and that I got owned and that I'm digging my hole deeper and I need to learn, blah blah.
If you don't understand that there are more things to know, then you make a quick conclusion that the car with the blower making more boost is also moving more air. But what you missed is that the 1 psi could be cause by heat. As you heat air, pressure increases. Without also knowing the heat of the air or how much air the blower is actually injesting, you cannot know if blower A or blower B is better, or which is moving more air.
Similarly we are talking about spraying washer fluid (or a mix or whatever) in your engine. People see lower IATs and assume it's working because they don't know what they don't know. Just like above if you don't know that temperature needs to be measured along with boost, then you won't understand what to look for. I'm asking for Blueberry's graph at the same rpm point so I can break down the physics of what is taking place. Saying the IATs went down is a forgone conclusion, the rest of what's happening needs to be looked at in conjuction which is why again, I'm asking for the data point at the exact same rpm. To plug in formulas and show you guys how I got to my results, the numbers must be precise.
That's not all that I'm looking for. I have never stated that spraying water or methanol or a mixture will not cool IATs. So far one person in this thread posted water won't lower IATs but I think the majority of us know that it will. That is only one data point though.
