New Intake Manifold Development Thread!!!
New Intake Manifold Development Thread!!!
Ok... upon much request, I'm officially stating that with the help of a local company, and the help of a few forum members minds, I'll be developing a new intake manifold for the LSJ.
The key features of this new design;
- Will bolt on as easy as the factory IM
- Will utilize the factory laminova cores
- Will provide superior flow over the OEM design
- Will allow for equal or better cooling effeciency
So... here is the first of many updates.
2 Basic designs, and 1 'elaborate' design have been sketched out, and reviewed.
Over the course of the long weekend, I will be making a preliminary model of each design, and running it though ANSYS flow. If the results are conclusive, I will manually run the flow numbers, and verify that the software is correct.
Upon choosing the best design, the model will be tweaked, and modified to try to pull better numbers out of the thermal and flow matrices of ANSYS.
With any luck, I should have a pretty picture by next Monday.

I'm reserving the next few posts for updates.

For your viewing pleasure.... here is what the inside of the stock IM looks like.

For the lemmings... please don't cut open your IM based on these pics....

This may come as a surprise to some people... but designing an intake manifold for a naturally aspirated engine is far harder than it is to design one for an FI engine.
So... I'll have to say that I have no plans as of now to do an N/A intake manifold.

) any specific reasons?
If its not over 800 you have one sold provided that you show some proven gains.
But, it might be cheaper for them to go with an OEM manifold, unless they are pushing some serious air.
This new design is aimed at people with 2.8" or smaller pulley's on the M62, or guys running the TVS.
The air passes though the fins, cooling the air by transferring the heat to the liquid, which runs int he center of the tube.
Edit:
The OEM Manifold system (the laminova is 523);

And, a core;
