I had nothing to lose, I drove this car last week and it was like new, but the only thing that threw me off was the Black/Red leather interior... well after driving 5 other cars similar, this was by far the best driving and condition car not to mention the mileage, so i went back to the dealer after a long day of looking at cars and walk up to the sales guy and told him 17,000 out the door and I will take it right now... the usually bullshit came next of course, he said he talked to his sales manager and i was $1,500 off.. Said thanks and later, I made a point to walk past the Sales Managers Office as I was leaving
Of course he comes running out as i hit the door... His like 17,500, I said 17,000, he says 17,300, I said 17,000, he says 17,200 and Again I said 17,000. Finally he says Ok but at least
pay the $40 for tag transfer.. so I agreed

Tried to trade ours in for another Vette or sell back no trade to the Chevy dealer and they said they were junk cars and they didn't even want it on their lot. Went across town to another Chevy dealer and were basically told the same thing. They said it didnt matter what we owed on it they didnt want it as its not a good car to try and sell to the public at all. My buddy is a parts manager at a Chevy dealer and he laughed when I told him what they said and thats it true no dealer wants them period.
In regards to your question on how much we put down:
I put down 228whp 204wtq on a 93 degree day with AEM Intake, Magnaflow Cat-back, and GM stage 2.

One guy dyno'd before and after of stock(216whp), intake(+4whp), then cat-back(+4whp), then gmpp extrude honed manifold(+4whp, 6wtq). gained a total 12whp and 10wtq by the end of those mods. Technically, you can get away with that for ~350-$400 or so. GMPP cat-back, airbox mod w/AEM filter, and extrude hone the manifold yourself if possible

Good references.
