Not sure what this sound could be.

I have attempted to research on this site with nothing found. my car squeals a little when I start it coming from the engine bay, then when I get into higher rpms and let off the gas it makes a really bad squealing sound. Anyone else had this issue before?

I also just got the car put back together after the alternator crapped out on me.
The bearings went in the alternator and this squeal sounds different.

Owner's Manual? Yes, just google it or go on GM Owner's Link or whatever it's called now. There's PDF versions of the owner's manual.

Service Manual? No.

These are the official GM books:
Cobalt / Pursuit Service Manual GMPANS - Crate Engine Depot

But I think chilton or haynes makes one as well, just not as detailed.

yes sounds like a belt or tensioner pulley. how many miles on the car?

what are you looking for, owners manual or service manual. you won't find a service manual online for free. the closest you will get is alldata and you have to have a subcription to that.

When it`s squealing take a can of penetrating fluid and start spraying in behind each pulley one at a time. When it stops squealing for a second you've found your problem.

zzp says it could be a misaligned belt the only thing I wonder is when the bolt holes are preset how can it become misaligned. Im farely mechanically inclined but have never heard of this.

Since the belt is ribbed, it could be not lining up properly with the "teeth" on the pulley. I've seen it happen, though not as often. Given your mileage though, if it's the stock belt, I'd honestly just replace it and see if that solves the problem.

It is easy to misalign the pulley. You could have pressed the hub on too far or not enough.
