Oil Change information

Alright, I have heard one thing or another about our oil. We are supposed to use Mobil 1 Synthetic correct? I heard if we don't we get in trouble with our dealership (Dare I say a warranty issue)

I need to change my oil badly. Exactally what model filter do I get and how much oil do I use? Thank you. I think we should make a sticky as of what our motor takes.

Yeah i also have a question, i dont want to take my car to the dealer to get the oil changed because i dont want them to se my K&N CAI. So if i take it somewhere else, is Castrol Synthetic ok? I heard that your dealer cant say anyhting about you getting your oil changed somewhere else as long as you keep a reciept(proof) that you got your oil changed.

I would stick with the Mobil just to be safe buy yeah you can have the oil changed anywhere. I did mine myself and it was pretty easy, once you get to the filter cover nut.

Mobil 1 synth in the factory reccomended weight (5w30). You'll need a 15mm to remove the drain plug and a 32mm socket to remove the filter. Easy as pie.

2.0 supercharged wants 6 quarts. Check your dealer for a filter, some parts are cheaper than you might think. I think the OEM filter comes with a new cap and gasket that you might not get with aftermarket filters.

The fram filter does not seem near as good as the on from GM. I did my oil on a sunday when the dealer was closed so I had to buy a fram. The one I took out looked like a much higher quality item than the fram in my opinion.

The 2L supercharged engine requires at least 6 quarts of Mobile 1 synthetic or any other synthetic that meets GM's GM4718M lubrication standard. Note you can put up to 7 quarts of oil into the engine without hurting anything. When I bought my car I noticed the oil level filled all 4 notches on the dip sick. When I did my first oil change I put the required 6 quarts in and was only filling the first 2 notches even after about 10 minutes of time to settle, it took another half quart to fill all 4. My local auto parts store sells Delco replacement filters with or without the plastic cap an O ring. I think I paid about $4.50US for a filter with no cap.

Honestly I would stick with Mobil 1 Synthetic because it is a good oil. That is why gm recommends it. Remember you get what you pay for.

you can use whatever oil you want. mobil 1 full synthetic is reccomended though. as for the filter, theres 2 styles for an ecotec filter.

you need the NEW STYLE it has a smaller hole in it than the old style. if you use the old style your engine will not build proper oil pressure and it could be damaged.
