Alright I spun a rod bearing last year and im finally putting my engine back together. I dont wanna use it again in the fear of having metal shavings in it. Has anyone done anything with the oil cooler im not trying to spend 600+ dollars on a new one

I'm tapping the adapter for mine to run a remote mounted cooler. I won't be using the actual factory cooler itself.. if you want it shoot me a PM

Why not drill and tap? Drill the holes to 45/64 tthen run in a 1/2" NPT tap..similar has been done before with no reported issues..

never seen or heard of someone doing that by doing that you risk the metal sleeve on the outlet getting twisted loose and causing problems

Sorry for threadjacking op. Mrb, I thought the sleeve was in the block? The adapter appears to be sleeved...I'll find out soon enough I suppose lol

I'm sure you can back flush it with clean oil to clean any shavings out of it.

Has anyone thought of tapping the oil bypass valve to 3/8npt and using a -10 an fitting?

the oil bypass drops the oil back in the pan not to the engine and if it was a pressure source 3/8 npt is to small 1/2 minimum

You don't need an oil cooler. You can bypass it. It's on there in case some knuckle head runs Dino oil in it. With the high temps needed to keep emissions low a cooler was needed and or synthetic oil. I never would never run the stock high temps so I ditched the cooler albeit the stock one was in the way and the decision to bypas was less trouble than a relocation. FWIW.

it was not put on there incase some one ran dino oil and the ecotec engines were not designed to be run on any paticular oil the oil cooler was put on there to help the engine warm up faster and to try to control oil burn off both of whuch are emission related

I extrapolated to be honest. The sad thing is that some engines like older V6 jeeps do not call for synthetic. When the oil gets a little too old and is burned off it cokes up in the oil passages.
