Oil Pump Gear Failure

I will be building a 7,500rpm build soon and was curious about others who have similar redlines. GM recommends the hardened oil pump gears for higher or sustained time at the rev limiter, but i have only heard of one member's oil pump gear failing on him. Is this a excessively safe part to have? or do most people recommend them?

Also, i might as well ask this as well. I'm getting a set of weisco pistons, and i already have some eagle rods. Are new main/rod bearings needed for installation? Or do most members just re-use the stock ones? I'm looking for around a 400whp build, 450whp tops.

My oil pump failed on me when I was stock. I've heard of people having similar issues. Where do you get the hardened oil pump gears?

As far as bearings go, most people seem to reuse them but if it's apart you might as well replace them. I paid about $25 shipped for all new OEM con rod bearings.

as stated, all ecotec (i think CED sells them too, but theyre GM hardened gears, meaning they come with GM's pricetag)

anyone else have this failure?

ok. good to know. I was just looking at TTR and other vendors, and all the clevite bearings were in the hundreds of dollars... I didnt know new OEMs were so cheap. Are the clevite ones supposed to be that much stronger?

My engine builder said that only hardened pump gear only needed for drag cars with high shock loads, since I only road race he said reuse my low mile one and I've run plenty of time over 6k.

Got a part number? I can get it cheaper if I have a part number. I have access to many of GM's suppliers. For example, Carter is GM's supplier for fuel pumps.

I'm sure the Clevites are stronger, but the only other bearings besides OEM I would run are ACL's.

100%. It was a no brainer for me and I only had 30K on my stockers. When I pulled them out they looked perfect, but why not replace them if it's apart. Especially for that cheap of a price.
