Painting my header/dp

i didnt get a stainless steel or chromex covering or whatever they wanna call it. Cant i just go to autozone and some some high temp engine paint and spray like 5 coats over the header and dp? wont that help it from rusting out? Ive sprayed my brake calipers and my spark plug cover 2 years ago with high temp spray with a bunch of coats and they still shine like i just painted them.

Even if you use the "High Temp" paint, it will burn and smoke and come off. Either get it Jet-Hot coated, or similar, or leave it be.

The high temp paint will work just fine. You must first prep the surface very well. Use the recommended sand paper on the can, and sand it until the surface of your peace looks uniform and not just scratched up. Wash it dry it paint it. Wait a week or so before you install it. 99% of the people that have problems with the paint did not prep it correctly and it will chip off of burn off. Use the entire can on the header but put the coats on as directed by the instruction on the back of the can. If you let it dry long enough(that all depend on how many coats) it will get as hard as a rock. I have done the many time with much success and 0 failures. If you bang it around before the paint is completely cured well hell yea its going to chip or burn.

thanks, this is for the zzp midlignth combo. I dont think im gonna touch the dp. I think painting the header red might add some flavor, yet again, nothing is wrong with black.

Thanks rbc, ill do what i can and then giveyou some feedback with the results. Autozone high temp engine spray paint?

These cars run too hot for just basic spray paint.

I coated mine with 1500* ceramic from VHT! Unless you paint it and bake it properly it won't last but a few minutes!

Mine started smokin almost immediately and flaked off!

Get the highest temp you can get. With this its better to over do than under do. I bet you could do the autozone brand and be just fine but if you have the extra cash stick with the name brand. Get enough to do ATLEAST 3 thick coats. I prefer to do atleast 6 thin coats to reduce runs and it helps reduce drying time a tiny bit. When your painting its better to buy to much and take the rest back than to not have enough.

Jet hot coating would be the best. But if you cant get that done a simple 1500-2000 degree paint will work just fine. Prep the header real well, do not touch it with you hands after prep, prime, then paint. You will not need to bake it. It will give you curing instructions on the can. Its something like, run car for 10 minutes, let cool for 20, run for 15 minutes let cool for 30, etc..
