I agree that it is inaccurate. If your wheels were free spinning on water, and your speed and RPMS climbed rapidly it would tell you that you had a TON of HP.

 

Haha, I drove a 2005 Silverado 2500HD Diesel for a few days, with a Bullydog programmer. It logged the 'hp' and 'torque'. After I raised the fuel cut temperature and the truck was pushing 35+psi, the torque reading in second gear, when the tires started spinning, was over 1100. I know it was bull, but I never really thouget about it like that. Now it makes sense.

 

Same goes for 1/4 mile calculations. Any tire spin is calculated as ground travelled, that's why they are not accurate.
