Ported head install?

How difficult is it to change out the head. Can i do this in my garage at home or is this something left to a pro? How many hours would it take the avg person. Considering upgrading to a ported head but want to do it myself.

Full weekend job if you've never done one before. One full day if you've done a couple. Have to be clean, set your timing right or you can damage the engine. If you're not familiar with this kinda work, i'd suggest paying someone to do it right.

I wanted to do this when I had my LSJ, but wasn't able too

I know SMG in MA does ported heads and they charge $400 I believe for just the port job

I wouldn't do it myself I dont know how mechanically inclined you are but I'm sure it's not an easy task for a DIY'er

is it easy? first time NO
do you have to be CAREFUL? HELL YES!

can it be done? most def
if you are going to do it though i would suggest getting a manual and making sure you have ALLLLLL the parts before hand...there are some things u have to do in certain orders etc that make it a bit tedious...i have done it a few times...and each time (like the others said) it gets easier...but never easy

? Also, not cheap, I ended up spending in upwards of $2500 when all was said and done, and that was using all stock head components
