Routine Oil Changes?

When are the appropriate intervals for changing the oil in a SS/SC?
Say if the Vehicle is brand new.

I’m thinking of doing the first oil change at 1000 miles. The second 3,000 miles later. Then just Routine after that.

What’s all of your opinions?

Some people say change it after the first 500-1000 miles... I changed mine for the first time at 5000 miles... The oil was dirty that's it... no metal shavings or anything... Mobil 1 oil I believe is good for 5,000 miles

Would it be a better deal to upgrade to Royal Purple instead of running the mobil one synthetic?

Mobil 1 kicks ass..no reason to change the brand. Besides, using a different oil could cause warranty issues if your internals get jacked up.

Well I have never heard of anyone having their warranty voided because of the brand of oil they used. As long as your using the right weight and viscosity you would be ok with RP or Mobil 1 or whatever your favorite brand may be.

Why waste the money. There is a reason our cars are equipped with an oil life computer. Please stop buying into the oil industries crap about changing oil every 3k miles.

Royal Purple is good stuff. I changed first at 1400, and have 6700 now with 35% oil life left.

I will probably get another 2-3k out of this oil.

Actually NOT using mobil 1 WILL void your warranty. If you've read any of the paperwork they give you when purchasing your car you wouldn't have even asked this question to begin with, look at your oil fill cap. It says Mobil 1 for a reason.

I live in far east Plano (next to Murphy).

For you guys that are talking about the warranty being voided then you must have some picky dealers because that is the stupidest thing that i have ever heard of.

It's not a dealer thing. It's a manufacturer thing. The corvette only wants Mobil 1 as well as the Lancer Evolution, Subaru WRX STI. Alot of high performance cars REQUIRE Mobil 1. The give you a sheet when you purchase the car that says use only Mobil 1. I'm just telling you because if you don't keep reciepts or have it changed regularly at the dealership where you bought it from they WILL give you a hard time with warranty work.

Im at 3600 miles and Im going in for my first oil change next week.... Screw that oil change at 500 miles crap.... That is old school non sense... I work on benzs.. We use Mobil 1 0W-40... Dont do first oil change till 13000 miles... and continue everything 13k for the life of the vehicle... Been doing similar intervals on MBs for almost 10 years now... I HAVE NEVER seen a problem with an engine related to oil... Modern engines and oils are of much higher quality.... Only going in and getting my oil changed this early so I can get the pass door panel replaced....

Hmm I have never had a dealer ask me anything about the type of oil in my car, heck they never even cared that I didnt have cats on my Trans Am or much of a muffler for that matter.
