smaller pulley
I mean If 'you' were to start out with a stage 2 tune, and modify it for the car once its pullied down, then thats totally different.. but not making the tune specific for the vehicle as it sits, is a disaster waiting to happen.
Stock tune? This is a very bad idea. Too much heat can be your enemy, so is a bad tune for what the car is running.
I wouldnt even run GMs stage 2 tune with a smaller pulley than what it was meant for... aka, 3.0.
You may have been lucky, but that isn't good advice to give out..

too many people think the only thing they need to compensate for is the engine -- everyone overlooks that expensive little item that makes all that power to begin with -- the supercharger!
do a little research, below a 2.8 you overspin the blower and you're not really making any more power efficiently. If you want more than a 2.8 you need to get a bigger blower or go turbo.

Even still.. the stage 2 tune is made for a 3.07 pulley, and running a 2.8 is not the same.. not responsible IMO. Atleast it worked for you. Probably because GMs tune is on the conservative side.
I actually knew a guy locally who was running a 2.8" pulley and an intake on an otherwise bone stock car. Dunno how it held up for as long as it did, but it never blew up. That shouldn't have lasted IMO.
funny that everyone spouts off about 2.5s, 2.6s, and 2.7s...but one of the fastest M62 cars on this site had a 2.85..
A lot of people here need to learn how to make efficient power, and transfer it to the ground efficiently instead of just throwing more air and fuel at the situation.

7 out of the top 8 use a 2.7" pulley or smaller.
