Good luck Bryan.

Man that is gonna be sick when its back on the road. When my engine dies (from old age) I want to put in the short block and have SMG have a field day with it.

Ran into a hold up with the build. While using ZZP’s Ecotec 4340 Connecting Rods the pistons are up just a little too much which will not work with the current Cometic c5921-027 Head Gasket normally used on the LSJ. If i were to put it together as is it would run at high compression. The gasket I now need is the C5921-051 which is a thicker head gasket made by cometic. So I have been on a massive search calling every website on google including cometic themselves. No luck! Typically it takes cometic 5 days to build the gasket then another few days to ship out. Cometic themselves was the best help and said they would get it made in 1 day then ship it out for overnight (instead of the usual 5 days it takes them to make). So the car won’t be able to run this weekend as planned and for now SMG is going to get as much work done that he can do to the rest of the car while we wait for the gasket to arrive. Here are a couple picture of the block to show you what I’m talking about.

considering the stock pistons protrude out of the deck i doubt you would see much of a compression increase

Yea forget the exact reason. It may have to be due to the combination of the cams I’m running along with the rods/pistons. I’ll talk to Fred from SMG tomorrow probably and get the exact reason.

well I ran into some difficulties in getting this head gasket... the wrong head gasket was ordered somehow to the previous company i tried ordering from so I decided to just call Cometic themselves (which I should have done from the get-go) They were able to help me out and are going to get the gasket made in 1 day and shipped out tomorrow for overnight delivery. However no further work will be done to my car until next week as SMG will not be open until Monday or Tuesday. So hopefully I’ll have a good update by then.
