The only way to do this safely and still havea reliable car (running a 2.7 is over spinning your blower ), is to port and polish your head and your blower. Also you'll need cai, header with 1 3/4 primaries, 3 inch dp (catted or cattless for 3-4 hp more), 3 inch exhaust. Then get 60's and a 2.8 a custom dyno tune and you will be sitting really close to 300whp just over or under.

I'm not going to use meth that's just a preference. You also have to remember that those mods are just for power, you should upgrade you tranny mounts, brakes, h/e and clutch to complement your 100hp over stock power.

this thread is slowly turning win. Now the hard part is getting over 300whp without a ported head or built motor, or ported s/c. Thats how you learn how to tune.... Ported heads, blowers etc is like cheating if you want to feel special for getting 300whp.

tuning has a lot to do with it but so does air flow. Our heads can only flow so much air and its very difficult to push 300whp or more with stock non ported heads. Without spray im at 280 or 285whp i forget which and that was with 22 degrees of timing. I could bump it up to 25 degrees of timing, drop my pulley to a 2.6 and probably push out even more power and with a more agressive tune im sure I could hit 300whp, but whats the point? If it's about bragging rights I already have those with the bottle lol. Take my bottle away though and I'm just another ordinary guy.

Another thing to mention here is how high you rev your motor. Our motors stock can handle 7300rpms no problem, most people here will say that the valves/springs can handle 7500rpms. I know a lot of people who have ran 7500rpm redlines without issue. The higher you rev the more power your going to make, up to a certain point obviously.

Depending on what you want to do, I would replace the valves/springs/port the head and rev to 8k and theres your 300+whp if you have the "supporting mods" done.

These threads come up all the time and we always argue the same things. Heat and air flow are the 2 biggest things we need to worry about. Also, meth is a very good thing, don't let any personal opinions stray you away from meth, its addicting yes, but also wonderful.

Area has done it. And somebody else did it with a 2.5 pulley and no cooling mods.

Also, Blown 4-banger took down a 298whp srt-4 the night he blew his motor...

Funny nobody mentioned cams...

I think the op and others are wanting to do this without internal engine work. Then in that case you will need a great tuner, a very small pulley, all cooling mods including methanol injection, lots of timing and reving to 7500rpms.

Cams were just a suggestion.

All the members I mentioned had no internal mods at the time.

And as far as a ported blower goes...thats not really anything special IMO...it might help cool down the intake charge slightly but its nothing compared to say, a ported head.

Oh I do agree a ported blower isn't anything special, hell if done incorrectly it will decrease your hp instead of slightly increasing it. I am going to stay away from porting the blower. I want to stay with stock internals, and stock m62 and post up a dyno sheet of 300whp. I will do that for you guys this summer more then likely, just depends on the funds.

Reving to 7500rpm will not help you gain power on the stock head and cam profile.

eesh... for those that think they can hit over 300 on the stock motor and stock blower with only a 2.8 pulley, probably even a 2.7 pulley, it will not happen.

there have been quite a few that have made it past that 300whp mark. word is someone w/ a ported head and 2.8 made it over 320. i dont know that one for sure though. either way, the cylinder head is where the power is at in this car

I promise you all here that I can drop my pulley size from a 2.8 down to a 2.5, mess with my tune and my methanol injection and hit 300whp. If i am at 285 right now, theres no reason why I can't be at 300whp. I don't see what the big deal is with this 300whp mark though.

Just use a 35-50 shot like I do

Oh i will do it without nitrous and without touching my internals I guarantee it. I just need to drop my pulley size and push the car pretty hard. 7500rpm rev limiter, 25 degrees of timing, lots of meth to keep it cool, probably a 5gph nozzle nice new one and do it on a cooler day. We will see though.

do you have a copy of your dyno sheet. I would love to see your tq curve.

zach,

you arent running 25 degrees of timing on a 2.5 without a badass tuner and some race gas (if you could even do it then)

oh and your car doesnt make 285whp on a 2.8.

got any track times, id like to see what you are trapping off nitrous.

also, have you raced altiery54 before? i know him decently well and he claims to have put 2-3 on you last year when you claimed 280whp. funny part was that he only put down 257.
