It was a 6 speed. We went from around a 30 mph roll all the way to 120.

And to add, we went from about 5mph as well. Same outcome.

Yeah, I think you are right.

Also, I have ran the 02Trans Am and a Z28 Camaro (I don't know what year, one of the last year models of the Z28... or how the Z28 fairs with the LS1)... But I won both times. When I was stock I put 2 cars on the Trans Am, inching the whole time (from 60-130 though)... and with my current set up minus Exhaust I put 4 cars on the Z28. SO it's hard to tell. I hope you win... I've heard rumors of SS/SC's keeping up with C6's... but those could just be rumors.

Kill Him... with style. If you happen to take off and take the lead... wave bye to him from the sunroof.

Wow, I'm surprised this thread went this long without anyone mentioning that the Vette will weigh a bit more then they would normally because of it being a convertible also. The frame and all needs that extra support to make up for lack of roof. That will also help you out. Not drastically, but it will. You can do it..Just go for it man, worst that will happen is he'll beat ya, but if he's stock is shoudn't be a demolish and he may give you some props.

Whatever you do, make sure you nail the 2-3 shift. That's where i picked up what i lost with the Camaro i ran.

Yeah the fact that it is a convertible AND auto gives me good chances! I mean I dont expect to win, but anything can happend on the street right. He being real big helps again on the weight(hehe).

Race him... AND GET IT ON VIDEO!!! I think you might pull a win... Hopefully. I've beat many low 13 second cars from a roll. And the mods you are talking about are pretty similar to mine.

What cars did you race that was in the 13's just out of curiosity!!

My dad test drove an automatic C6 vette the other day, and he said he wasnt that impressed with it. Said my car felt almost as fast, I mean I dont expect to fallow a C6, but i was impressed that the butt factor of my car was that high. I'm surprised no one here has yet to race a vette?? We got people who even raced lambo's, but no vettes. I just cant wait for the warranty to be done and get 60's in there or a GMPP S3 with NOS!!

Assuming he is completely stock. No you wont beat an LS1 from a roll.

Also, can we move this thread?

Dude, martin...I have a 2000 SS (pretty modded) and I can tell you right now from experience (i raced a 00 non convertible auto vette and won with my camaro ss with only a catback)...a Stock 99 Convertible Automatic against your mods...you will win. A c5 non Z06 vette is not much faster than a Z-28 of the same year, if at all. Race him and vid it...you will see I am right...I got you by a car from 40-100. Watch third gear in the LS1's though...they will run a lot of ground scary fast.

I have some jack ass my brother works with trying to race me for money...he has a stock 87 C4 and he swears he is going to walk me...guess he doesn't realize that his C4 has a 15.3 quartermile

Yeah exacly what i was thinking. There is a guy downhere that has a modded 99 Z28 and I mean I cant take him or anything, but I can run with him. A C5 has about the same amount of H/P as a Z28 SS. This vette is auto and convertible that adds weight, so I cant see it being alot faster if any faster than a stock Comaro SS. That vette is a 13.5+ car at the track, and he has traction to launch, where iam fighting for traction. So keeping up with him from a 40-100 i dont think is out of the question. My car is prob a easy 14 flat car, so If i would put on slicks no to spin, I think I would gain that .5. From a 40 is perfect for our cars... So I thought I would at the least be right there with him! Even if it says vette on the car, doesnt mean it can destroy us!!

So have people going both ways, you'll win, and you'll get spanked ... Don't worry about the 2nd passenger, just duct tape a couple cameras in your car.

LOL just get it on video, but I really think he will start to pull you up top, but who knows. What do the 99 convertibles trap in the 1/4 mile?

I have both a cobalt and an LS1. 02 Z28 M6. My camaro is without a doubt 10- times faster then my cobalt. Even from a roll he will beat you. LS1 is very strong up top. Good luck though!

race him you'll win. 40 in second for an auto vette is a dead spot and it will take him a couple of seconds to get into good power. Stock an auto c5 only puts down around 280hp. with your mods you have got to have at least 250whp. On top of that the vette i believe is 3350 lbs, so you have a 400lb weight advantage. You should win by about 2 cars if you can shift decent.

You must have a magical Camaro...you don't even have any performance parts that are going to add a considerable amount of HP?

A cobalt with a Stage 2 and 2.9 pulley and a couple other mods and I doubt your camaro is much faster from a roll, if at all...more or less "10x's faster".

This is coming from a guy with a 00 Camaro SS that has Long tubes, no cat 3" y-pipe, Borla Exhaust, injectors, new PCM, slp lid with air plate w/K and N, 1.8 RR and 3:73 gears. I know my LS1's as I have owned more than my share...they are fast cars but to claim a car that cuts 13.5 quarters is "10x's faster" than a cobalt with your mods...thats ridiculous.

In fact I can't wait to get to the track with my cobalt this year, I guarantee I will plant better times than a stock LS1. You can't go off of "guessing" as cars vary WAYYY too much...your LS1 will feel much faster than a 03 or 04 cobra too...I know I have driven and raced my friends...my LS1 felt GOBS faster, but I got my ass handed to me by a car that "felt slow".

LS1 is very strong up top.
I agree...in fact I said that...but they are not unbeatable...look at the gearng and HP to weight ratio...especially on your camaro...it will open your opinion up very fast.

^^^ agreed!! I will amke sure to get it on vid. Hopefully I can get the turbo'ed SI to race me that same day to!! He has a Greaddy turbo, give him 25% more power, so prob dyno's around the 230-240hp range!! that should be interesting to!! But the vette is the one I am really interested in!!

Well, there you have it folks...a stage 2 kit makes a BIG difference.

I pulled a good 5 cars on my brothers SS/SC through just 3rd gear when I had just a stage 2 and he was stock.

yeah sure if only you lived closer. My vette is useless right now as it is only good for making clouds in this cold ass weather. I was also thinking about getting a 96-99 viper but i went for the vette because of its weight advantage.
