SS (super short) ram intake for your SS

Anyone see anyone do this? or do it yourselves?

I know Im probably stupid for wanting to do it, but here goes.

When I bought my car, it had the modified stock airbox with cone filter deal on it.

Well long story short, I sucked up water, and trashed the motor. Now that its all fixed, and has a stock intake back on it, I just hate the way it sounds, I miss busting people's ear drums with the whine.

So instead of doing another full CAI, and risk the same thing happening, has anyone modified the stock intake to fit the MAF and filter inside the engine bay?

Yea, I know, I actually wouldnt mind a little hotter IAT's see if she will stop chugging gas. lol

Or would the damn thing just change timing to compensate for the higher temps.

Am 99% stock btw, save the for 1% aftermarket muffler.

Yea, I ran a short ram, and AEM CAI on my 04 cavalier ecotec, had no problems rain or snow or whatever.

I think what the issue was, the car was missing the front skid plate, the plastic bit that goes under the radiator, to both fender well covers, and was missing the driver fender well cover.

So I think it was just utterly exposed to the elements, coupled, with the intense rain.

Problem was, I didnt even drive through the puddle, I swerved, and a jacked up chevy thought it would be cool to carve through the water at the same time, and soak my car, It shut off the second his wave hit my car.

Thats how I got insurance to claims out the motor, and got it all taken care of. Not at fault. Plus I had bought it like that, and the dealer admitted it.

Call me ricer, I just want the noise, regardless if I get any actual gains from it lol.

Yes that was 100% the issue. How can you expect it not to suck up water with all the sheilds missing?

lol I fully expected it to, I was waiting til payday to buy the fender well covers, cause I knew the car needed it, or else that was going to happen, and I had managed to not drive it in the rain for about 2 weeks after getting it, then a few days before payday, it downpoured and I was forced to drive it, tried to avoid puddle, but got **** on in the end.

Thats why I am a little gunshy of purchasing a CAI, I still dont have the front skid shield, just the fender wells, cant find a junkyard that has one.

Your fender well missing is the most crucial part. Always make sure you have those in and get a hydro shield. You will never have an issue. Unless you use your Balt as a submarine lol. I've run a CAI on 2 Cavaliers and my Cobalt over the past 8 years and never had a problem.

Skip the filter in the engine bay. Mines there now and it wont work for you guys how have a maf. Mines going in the fender well as soon as I can afford to plumb it there and yank out the stock resonator box + put in a smaller washer tank.

Yea, I guess, I didnt even know it could happen lol, oh well.

I may just leave it stock, I feel like I would be playing with fire the whole time, and my wife would kill me, if it were to happen again lol.
