Its not really. Base, no options an SS/SC is like 21-22. GTI base w/ no options is like 23 somthing. The GTI has WAY more technology crap in it. And that DSG is the mofuggin shiznit! Its a really fun little car. Thank god my g/f wants to get one so I can have the best of both worlds. Stick/SC Auto/Turbo. YAY!

Considering that the GTI is much more expensive you would expect it to pack more punch.
I was talking about the actual performance, not numbers/technical stats
Even then you get a better deal, $ per HP-wise with the SS/SC and it seems from what I've read in this thread that the GTI is not that reliable either. So the SS/SC seems a better deal.
Performance wise:
Don't forget that a stock Balt will beat a stock GTI any day, so the numbers may be similar, but performance wise the SS/SC does better
I rest my case....for now :p
.
I agree. I still like the GTI. The commercials and the little promotional DVD they give you are friggin' hilarious. I bet if GM had done something like that with the Balt they would have sold thousands more ss/scs.
go balt. ive got 20k on mine and it runs great, and it takes a ton of abuse, i learned to drive stick on this car, and i thrashed the living daylights out of it for 3 weeks (i know im a slow learner) and it just keeps on goin strong.
im in love, chevy finlly built car worth the SS badge again

GTI is slow. There is little after market. To me it seems everyone with a V-dub thinks their fast. That is hardly the case.
Go with whats works get the cobalt. And, if you really want turbo. Make a turbo 'Balt!!!

I'm extremely hard on my cars, so that is probably a direct correlation to why my Cobalt is always broke from something. Axle, clutch, blown headgasket, 2 transmissions.... The good thing is, that I have pretty much run out of **** to break now, and have beefed everything up that can break!
As soon as I send my tranny off to get built, I should have a bulletproof car for around 400whp. I have a love hate relationship going on with my car I guess you could say.
