Stock intercooler hp limits

Hey all new to the forum!

Had tech question.

When does the stock intercooler reach its limit and become more of a hinderance than a help?

Whats the max psi someones crammed thru it?

Thanks for reading!

Technically it's the same thing...cools compressed air AFTER the compressor. An intercooler cools the compressed air AFTER the compressor. Same thing.

It's not really a horsepower limit but more of an efficiency limit. I'd say before you go lower than an 3.0 inch pulley, look into changing your aftercooler. This is just a general thing...the purpose is to keep your IATs down, in relation, keep your combustion chamber temps down and reduce likelyness of detonation.

dual pass/twin HE is the way to go when smaller than 2.9 in pulleys

i run 18 psi, still need to install the resivior and GM dual pass....sitting in front of me

Wicked! What kind of wheel horsepower are you making at 18 psi?

no dyno since bone stock, i figure 260, cuz Mines_Better from my club dynos 240 with just 2.8 pulley-no tune/intake/injectors
but only dyno will tell

also i feel my boost will drop when i get exhaust and valvetrain

also i am going to run Dual pass option B with a bigger resivior w/15psi cap, dual pass and a cobra HE

further cooling mods will include meth/nitrous and intercooler(s) sprayers

The stock aftercooler system is about 70% efficiant. The problem is with say a 2.5"-2.6" blower pulley the post blower temperatures are in the 350 F - 400F range. It will always be a help though.

20-22 PSI is about the max people have seen. This is mostly limited by the fact that you can only get so small of a pulley on the M-62. Someone would try for more if they could.

The stock Intercooler should be able to handle alot more, the problem is that the M62 isnt efficent at higher boost levels. So people with the smaller pulleys need to add on dual pass, 2nd heat exchanger, water/meth...... but with a more efficent blower, this stock Intercooler set up should be able to support 300-350, and probally a little more with the supporting mods I listed.
If you had a free flowing exhaust, the boost will porbally drop abit but you will still make more power at lower boost
Lower boost = less heat

This is with no Blower in place bone stock intercooling system.
We are going to install our own version of the dual pass setup.
Then we'll see how far it drops.
So you have done a full pull on the Dyno?
