Stroking any insight?!

Too much stuff that requires you to retune the engine for decent performance could lead to explosive effects...

Actually, the 87mm pistons for the Ecotec are pretty common. That is the 0.03" overbore (though it is actually a little closer to 0.035") and is one of the standard overbore sizes. If you do a quick search for it, you can find that size Ecotec piston for sale for a large number of shops on the web, along with several sleeve kits for that size. Plus it would get him to 137ci and make him not quite as badly over stroked.
But hey, if it was me, I would actually rather go the other way. Same length stroke, but get the bore up to 3.76" and end up with around 146ci/2.4l of dispacement. Of course, we're talking about some major supporting mods there. Lot stronger rods, top end piston sleeves, forged pistons, top in valve train parts. It wouldn't make as much low end torque as the stroker (the LSJ already has almost to much anyway), but would rev faster/smoother and have more top end.

I have a brand new 2.2L ecotec I was going to use for my 03 cavvy ls sport project before I traded it in for the ss/sc....and always wondered if I could use the crank for a stroker build. Bad news is that I don't think the gains would be big enough and I decided to just do bolt on stuff to this car until I trade up to a brand new Camaro.... The motor is for sale now.

Now the question(s) are: 1. Is it worth the time?
2. Where in the hell am I going to get the money!
Most cost effective way right now would be; get the L61 crank and HP tuners... Then worry about the pistons once I can really afford the big stuff or just hold off and do it all at once...
