It's behind the engine and a massive PITA to get at. I was gonna replace my thermostat as well but decided against it once I figured out where it actually was, haha.

Easiest way I've found to do this is to remove the cam sensor and housing (make sure everything is timed and aligned). All you need to do is drain some of the coolant and remove the thermostat housing bolts; lift up the housing and replace.

I have seen in the lsj build guide that they run a modified thermostat in there final motor build, anyone have any ideas as to why? I am aware of big V8's running hotter thermostats for power reason, was the lsj a colder or hotter?

No need to run a different thermostat unless it is strickly a race car.

With a highly modified race car you sometimes have to run a colder/hotter thermostat to attain the proper combustion chamber tempuratures.

The thermostat basically sits right in front of the water pump. It is in the coolant line running on the back side of the motor under the exhaust manifold on the passenger side.

The thermostat is next to the fuse box and the exhaust manifold; backside of the engine.
