You're using your college fund to buy something that depreciates? Jesus, young people do not understand the importance of education. COLLEGE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN A CAR. What I would do if were you is buy a mid engined (motor is in the back of the car) 88 GT Fiero fastback.... They're fast enough to kill a lot of the cars on the road today. They're also the car that has the most aftermarket support as far as motor swaps, suspension, braking, body kits, etc.....
Here's a good pic of one if you've never seen one

Where and when did you get the SS for 18k? that's before TTL I'm assuming right?
Yes that was before. I had the gm employee price and then 2700 gm points i belive.

EDIT 8/9/05: It was at Hawthorne Chevy. As a matter of fact, I was there today (Monday) and they have a 2006 Yellow SS/SC on the showroom floor. It's perty Total price is 24,500 i think. or close to that.

Trust me this car will be a handful. If you do have the money to purchase it, you have to figure in a bunch of other factors....being car insurance, maitience, more maitence(tires), plus ur a new driver at the age of 16 equals cops on your ass like theres no tomrrow. Not to bring ya down pal, but u will definitly mack this car up. Since your such a new driver, its just a matter of time before you get into your first accident. Trust me I was 16 at one time with a 77 Nova with 400ci small block. I was speed crazy and loved to light the tires up and attact a ton of cops. Plus I had my share of first time driving fender benders. Trust me you will do the same too. This car may be too much for you first car. My suggestion, get your self beater project car for the next couple of years, wait untill you graduate highschool or go to college then look into buy one. It's for your own good. Im not knocking you at all for you enthusiasm and interest in the SS. But My personal opinion is that it;s not for you just YET!!! Give yourself a couple of years. Just to give you an example of how much work is in this car....my buddy has one too, and we were both cruising and he hit a mega pot hole in NYC.....destroyed the rim and tire, and spent $800 to replace it....ouch.
Just wait a few years pal....plus you never know where the Cobalt SS will be in a few years.

Thanks
Steve-O
You are right about the accidents and cops. However, about the pothole thing, I try to avoid them anyway I can (If i can, that is, if the driving condition allows me to) I've seen what they did to my brothers 18" rims. Since I already have the car, I'm not going to sell it. I agree with you in getting a beater but i'm too attatched to the car to depart with it. I do know about insurance, gas, and maintanence. My insurance is only $2,000. TRUST ME that is CHEAP for where I live. I pay half of it. Anything that goes wrong with the car I have to pay for it. My dad did get the extended warranty though, so that's good. I'm not going to mod the car unless GM comes out with the upgrades and keeps the car under warranty. Gas, I put 93 octane in her and never let the gas guage go below half. And maintanence, I wash it once a week or as soon as I see bird crap. Yeah, tires are expensive, especially pirellis. I already knew that.

Congrats on the new purchase. My parents wouldn't even let me buy a car when I turned 16. I didn't get a car until after my first year in College and it was a 7 year old Beretta.

The Cobalt SS/SC is a fast car and it will get you into trouble before you know it so be careful and take a driving course for me

I also hope you got an insurance estimate before you ordered one, that can be a lot of cash for a 16 year old primary driving, unless your parents are putting you on their policy

All that said I would be freakin siked if I was getting an SS/SC for my first car. Make sure you use it to get some tail. However the back seat is kinda small..
