Threw a rod today
Speak of the devil.... After 12 years of driving this car and 148k miles... it throws a rod. I am still on the same stock clutch and baffled how that happened? I have not raced or got on it in a long time. I had the GM stage 2 installed one year after purchase along with magnflow mufflers. That's all that has been done to the car. I posted recently about getting horsepower gains for my car. Now it seems I have the perfect opportunity to do just that. Only problem I have is... I don't have that much time to read up all the posts in the forum. If someone could please guide me to where I need to go or who to talk to about getting just a bit more power out of my car. I know stage 2 comes with like 245hp... I would love to have 300+. What can I do to the engine to make that possible? I did read that I would need clutch upgrade and reverse mounts for wheel hop.

No sir! It would have been overheating if I did run out of oil. I always watch the temperature. I left work and noticed it was vibrating a bit harder than normal. I pulled over to check under the car. I noticed the whole exhaust pipe from the tip to under the motor was rattling pretty bad. Since I am born deaf I couldn't hear if it was knocking or anything. But I could feel something wasn't right. It felt like it was much louder than normal when the revs would get up there before I shift in a normal manner. I thought maybe I had bumped something under the car and knocked exhaust loose. Where I worked at... They had this really bumpy rocky driveway where I went slow but I did feel a big rock scrape under the car. I thought that's what knocked exhaust loose. I drove it for 30 mins and it just all the sudden died on me and blew smoke and oil everywhere.

Coolant temp wont necessarily be hot if just because you dont have oil. Definitely check that you had oil first, since you said you felt something scraping under the car, you couldve damaged the oil pan. If you could feel that something was off, im sure it mustve been pretty loud. Im surprised nobody tried to tell you about it.

I know it had oil in it. There was oil all over the road when that happened and it was still leaking oil when I pulled over. No one could tell me about the noise the car made as I was making a 50 min trip home from the job site. Had to pay 85 bucks for a flat bed tow truck. My temp was in the 170's when that happened. Then quickly got above 200 in just couple seconds. I'm still wondering why? I was hoping to make it last for another 10 years as I babied this car. But now I got new plans for this car. Hopefully 300+ hp build. If someone could point me in right direction or who to talk to. That would be much appreciated.

you definitely hit/ran something over. if your block isnt w/a huge hole underneath or on the side of the block(cracked or open to atmosphere) you would not be leaking oil anywhere...
what ended up happening(if you have found out causation)!?
i have spun/failed completely 2 rod bearings on my GTI and never once did i have an oil leak or anything leaking from my car. aside from a head gasket blowing and was spitting coolant out 2x from 5psi above tolerances for high comp.
