Transmission is leaking. Anybody else have this?
I put a clutch in this winter and a new slave cylinder while i was at it. After getting my car back together and driving around a bit i noticed that oil is dripping from the driver-side transaxle housing. The thing is, I never took that apart, just the bell housing from the engine to take the clutch off. Even if my new slave cylinder is leaking, i dont think it would leak from the driver-side transaxle housing. Suggestions?

Did you replace the seals inside there? Theres a little oring seal that you should replace. Mine leaked before i replaced this. Pull out ur axles, feel inside the hole and you pull out a little oring. Order new ones from Tom at CED throw em in and ur good to go. cause you dont actually take the trans apart when doing a clutch. You just take it off.

Bring it to the dealer and have them fix the axle seal under the powertrain warranty.
Mine is on like its 3rd one in 45,000 miles. It's only a matter of time before it leaks again...lol

I thought I needed an axle seal too...so we cleaned up everything and I kept driving her a few more days to see if that was really the cause....I guess what, it wasn't.
I found the leak was coming from the top of the tranny, where one of the shifters comes out the top. Looked into how hard it was to fix...well I requires pulling the tranny out. **** that ****, so we drained out a small amount to see if that would help and it did. I guess they must have over fill when the car was built (common Ive heard).

Look at the pics /\ ...it was leaking from the top all the way down to the output shaft.

M35 transmission
#1 the axle out put shaft has an oil seal housing on the transmission retained by 5 bolts. It has a roughly 3 inch diameter O ring on its outer circumference and a steel jacketed oil seal on the inner circumference. It is unlikely the 0 ring would be loose or come out. More likely the steel jacketed oil seal tension spring could dislodge. There is no "little O ring" inside the transmission shafts.
#2 the biggest reason for any leaks from the transmission is over filling. The trans holds 1.9 litres of fluid from dry, which means about 1.5-1.7 litres refilling after draining in normal service. There is a vent in this transmission , its hard to find, and the trans will leak fluid if it is over-filled, until the trans finds the right level and the "leak " through the vent will stop. FYI it has been known to happen that the trans., is over filled at the plant ....

i believe its leaking fromn the shifter cables b/c there is fluid running down the back of the transaxle housing. ill have to look again. i never touched the trans fluid while i had the trans off so im not sure whats up.

hard to figure, maybe the back up lite switch is leaking, I would not suspect the shifter pivots at all, but I would expect the fluid to pool a little in the back up lite switch area, but it could go back...all these parts are above the static trans fluid level
