week one with cams

after 2k miles on them so far. i will say that this thing is a freakin animal above 5k all the way to 7700 rpms. bottom end seems a bit softer now, this i can live with.

idle. well. i have hidden most of the cam sound to try and keep the car low key. to a degree at least. timing works wonders

the grind is the 272. supertech 78lb springs. the usual stuff that goes along with this.

first issues with tuning. well, where to begin with this one. my car, acts like no one else's. which inturn means no one else's camfiles work worth a **** in my car. strike one.

major work had to be done in the timing departments to get the car to idle good, not surge, or anything stupid.

07's have a larger range of "free will" so to speak when going through random bits of the maps in general. one has to work with this, then pull hair out. spend 5 hours in the driveway working on low speed coastdown, idle, other fun things.

in the end, im extremely happy with the cams. the way they perform, and the unholy power surge at 5k.

if you know to tune, and are good with timing. get em. get the valve train as well. set your rev limit to 7800 and smile the entire time

i didn't install them. they are the same regrinds witt/djt are running. the 272's flowtechnicsonline i think is the place i got them done at. dave is a nice guy. doesn't always answer the phone, but will get back with you.

something about the 07's p32 makes the car a bitch to work with.

ghaaaaaaaaaaa.

most of the people at the chicago meet didn't know i had cams in the car just by listening to it

What did the total part lists cost you? I am planning on doing a head for my car in the next year, I need to start getting the funds in line.

Glad to see that they have worked out for you. I knew that had to be what you were doing when you kept complaining the car wasn't running right and whatnot! Congrats!

Did you pull the cylinder head to do the valvetrain, or did you just do it while attached to the block? Just curious? Also, did you do neutral balance shafts as well? Thanks.

bottom end is stock still.

i spent about a grand on everything. between cam cores. shipping, gasket kits and other misc crap here and there

you can do the cam/spring swap with the head still on it. just need 100-110 psi cylinder pressure to keep the valves up.

remember kids. stay in the lines when working with the coloring book

Coloring book. Yeah, I'll probably take the head off and have it ported if I do mine to along with the 272's, neutral balance shafts, and finally get to swap out my 2.2L Cometic gasket for the actual 2.0L Cometic gasket made for our cars. This will probably also spill over to the pistons getting swapped as well, and thus you can see why I've been avoiding these mods like the plague!

Your car takes off like a ******* bat outta hell at 5K, I saw you 1 time during the cruise when you got on it...

You did a great job hiding it, but something just sounded a bit off that made me wonder, hmmm...

lol I'm doing the same... Taking the trip to Pitt. to meet up with Witt and the guys and gonna swap cams, pistons, head studs, head gasket, and I'll have my spare head assembled already with the new springs..... aiming for 500whp on race gas before summer.

hehehehe
im sneaky. 90% of the people there didn't know it was cammed. if you caught the car when it was cold. it was a dead give away.

i even dropped the idle to 850 and it didn't change much. so far im very pleased with the outcome. not happy with the way i had to tune it to get the car to idle right, then again hpt fucked us on the limited tables

You guys need to setup a web cam during the operations, so I can grab some popcorn and watch the whole operation from over here in the sand land!

lol gonna have to drop it to pull the head anyway, but there is a lot of cursing involved in trying to pull the turbo.... you can't really fit your hand back there
