I was messin around with a 300 C today and after about the 3rd full out run.. i started to hear this noise toward the back of the car.. kinda like something was loose.. a tapping noise.. but only when i was off the gas and slowing down.. anyone else have this same problem?..

 

perhaps exhuat back fire is what you heard? My car if the R's are high and I let go of the accelerator and slow down I hear popping or tapping noises. It seems normal to me. I won't worry to much.

 

Have a bad resinator on my SS rattles real bad. GM is re-designing it. Dealer is to replace my exhaust from the cat back as soon as one becomes avalible. sounds like a tin can going down the road.

 

Slipping The Clutch is a bad thing to do, if you dont liek the noise simply let it sit in nuetral and glide down to a slower speed. Not only will you eliminate the noise your clutch will last longer by not "downshifting". I know i use to be the same way with my car, till i found out how bad downshifting reallyl is for a clutch.

 

I hear that noise all the time...it's definitely exhaust afterfire popin' and crackin'. Nothing to worry about.

 

If its a tapping noise, Tighten your antenna.


Used to always loosen on my cavalier, seems this is the same.

 

ok.. thank you for all the suggestions.. starting from the latest.. already tightned the attena.. but it is very similar to that noise.. next.. i def know its not the clutch.. when i slow down i usually just throw her into neutral.. and im not talking about at high rpms.. im talking about at low rpms at around 10 mphs.. ( i assume i can hear it more because of the lack of windnoise).. this is why i also rule out backfire.. ud hear that while the rpms were dropping.. the only thing i can think of it being is something loose..

 

You're supposed to use your gears with a manual tranny Suggesting to coast in neutral is not the correct way to drive this type of car, you will kill your breakes.

 

Its called heel-toe and double clutch dude. You get zero transmission wear that way.

As I have only been driving maybe 2 years tops and less than a year total with a straight drive(my first car was a 68 mustang with a 289 and a c-4), Much of these things are new to me, ive was never shown "double clutch" but i know a brake job is cheaper than replacing a clutch at least on my current car). Thanks for the read ill have to give that a try.

 

Yeah IDK when people thought a clutch was a substitute for brakes!

The heat shield above my resonator rattles here and there only notice it when I start the car up and the windows are down..

 

this happens on my durango every now and then. Its not bad, but it mis shifts for me on my AUTOMATIC, which is really gay.

 

Don't know if they (GM) is going to have a recall on the resinator or not. Dealership is trying to locate an exhaust system for my car. Also noticed rear quater panels are loose hope I did'nt buy a lemon. They are ordering me new support brackets. one more thing an the SS is going back!

 

yeah i have problems with mine. the rear doors always shake down too.

 

that could be it.. the sound that i would imagine that makes is the sound i hear
