What to do, What to do?

New here, clearly.

I've used the search function, maybe searching for the wrong things? I'm not sure. However, I bought this 05 Cobalt LSJ not to long ago honestly for a pretty good price. Now I know why.

It is a turbo swap car.

I was told that it had a spun rod bearing, and headgasket issues( we all know the he say, she say type of stuff.) We all know that just doesnt happen just because. This car has a ridiculous amount of work done to it, everything but the block it seems. So I ripped into it this week, and found exactly what I thought had happened. Cracked block. Cylinder wall etc. I've yet to pull the internals, but I'm sure the crank and rods probably arent in too good of shape.

My question is. What shall be my next step? Block wise? ZZP? (Costly, but its right) Stock sleeved block? Or?

Dont mind the mess, was like this when i recieved it.

The question you need to ask/answer is what are your goals and how much do you have to spend?

Once you've answered those questions you can build a road map on how to get there.

I am really hoping "for a good price" means next to nothing if you bought a car that doesn't run.

Good luck with the car.

Haha. It was pretty much next to nothing honestly. A 60k mile straight car with almost everything but a sleeved or decked block. I figured out where to go and what to do. Thanks though!

That's great, you will have lots of fun with your car once you have finished replacing the motor. These cars are a blast to drive.

May also consider stronger aftermarket sleeves pushed into an old LSJ block if you aren't getting too crazy with the power.

O hai, we're in the same boat... only I didn't buy this car from someone. I thought I had a head gasket issue, only to find a giant crack in cylinder 1.

I'll most likely be going with a ZZP Girdled Block.

Damn, thats a good one. Did it still run okay minus the smoke show? Everytime I break the block its a bit more spectacular and the engine doesnt stay in one piece.

Sorry, I was talking to the guy above me. Usually mine looked more like yours did where the chunks of block could be pulled out by hand.

Yeah, I was able to keep driving it for about 5 miles to my (now ex-)girlfriend's apartment. It still sounded like it was running on 4 cylinders too, unlike my first block. My first block just had a scarred sleeve in #4 after a ringland broke.

Fun times with big power. -_-
