I read through GM that the oil should not be changed/messed with on the m62?
is this not true?

yes it is considered a "sealed unit" which is good for 100k+ miles. But alot of people are running smaller pulleys than stock which are spinning the **** out of the blowers. So some feel it is good idea to change it.

I would just wait till the coupler gets noisey and change both at the same time.

I have changed mine before, and it was not needed. So i dont recommend it.

I would reccommend changing it every 25k miles. You can order oil through zzp for like 10 bucks, and it takes 15 minutes to change. Take out the plug, drain, refill.

its really not that excessive unless you put a ton of miles on your car. I usually put 25k on over a year and a half.

Its not retarted. Ask ebristol. He changed his with 20k+ miles on it, ask him what it looked like. I was there. After seeing his, I changed mine.

If you're stock or GM Stage 2, you don't really need to change it unless you service the blower (Coupler replacement...etc).

If you're using a small pulley, you should do a periodic change depending on how much you push the car.

if youre overspinning the blower i assume the oil is getting very hot and some of its properties will be lost alot faster that way. i dont know exactly when you should change it but 25k doesnt sound bad to me.
