will hp tuners kill the warranty or is it just better to get the reflashed stage 2 ecu?

Yes, if the dealer finds out.

No. They have to prove any change that was made caused the fault, then not fix it under warranty. If you go in for a brake problem and they try to say the warranty is cancelled because you have a custom tune, it is lawyering time. Almost all dealerships that sell trucks also sell tune kits (chips, PCM's etc.) for trucks, and those truck owners get warranty service, so don't be satisfied with any different treatment than those truck owners get.

Hey I have been around a little while, lol. Thanks. I figure if you want to mod and can afford to mod than you can afford to deal with whatever problems you cause.

If you blow your engine because of incorrect tuning the dealer is not going to fix it and yes that does not mean your other parts aren't covered. As for getting a lawyer, you are going to spend more out of pocket money per hour than getting the thing fixed.

Ok so ive never had to bring my car in for warranty, so warning this question may seem dumb... How would they even know you had it tuned with hp tuners. Do they scan for this every time you bring your car in? And is 450 to much to get a custom tune? Well thanks for the help.

If there is a need to update your pcm there is a good chance that the update will conflict with the custom tune you already have. Remember this is a simple as computer software. You can't just take Windows and install Apple software. The scanner software at the dealership will see when things are changed but again this only matters for systems changed by HPTuners.
Like others have just said, if you are really that concerned with warranty, don't do it. I have totally voided my drivetrain warranty and I had to repeat myself to my dealer several times, I know and I don't care, do the modification.

LOL, never touched my car, but when I took it in for service for the rough idle reflash, they couldn't do it because the scanner told them non-GM software installed. Had to ask them if GM didn't install the software from the factory - who the hell did?!

BTW, as per the original question, it will void warranty for anything that the PCM has control over. A more conservative tune might be ok, say if you didn't go beyond what was is in the Stage 2 tune, you could say "well look, what I did is no more aggressive than what GM warrantees under the stage 2 tune. if that doesn't cause damage, then there's no way that this one can." But if you go to a full custom tune that's very aggressive, high redline, lots of boost, etc, you can bet your warrantee is null and void if something goes wrong with your motor.

Having worked at dealerships as a tech and manager for many years,

THEY WILL NEVER KNOW YOU HAVE A TUNE! Was that clear

We never checked as the tech 2 used by dealers does not have that capability. It can only read the software id's which HPTuners doesn't change.

Not that I don't believe you but can we get someone else to confirm this?

We do have a similar act in Canada to the one in the States. If I add a custom exhaust and my electrical system blows up, the dealer does not have an out because "there was custom work done to the car" and in the same way if I get a different engine flash and my brakes fail, it is not the fault of the flash. They have to warranty it. Again, almost 50% of truck owners get mods like ours done and they have no problem getting warranty work done. You do not have to accept anything less than they get.
