I too am getting stage 3 through zzp. the tune they throw on their pcm is not bad, it has been said to beat GM, but it still wont compare to an aftermarket tune that a tuner does for you. However, if you don't have a tuner close by that is good and you don't want to send it in go with the zzp tune. you can always get it tuned by a real tuner later on.

I'm also in that same position...it is always better to buy another PCM core and keep the original somewhere just to be on the safe side? How much does a real tuner cost anyways?

Depends on who you go to, where you live, etc. The two GM dyno tuners in my area charge $400, tune until they get it right, no limit on pulls. However, there's a well known tuner in my area that does mostly street tunes (he is very reputable and experienced from what I've heard), that charges about $100 less. Just depends, but IMO its definitely worth the money.

Keep in mind that once you put new injectors in your car the stock pcm with a stock tune will not work.

Stone said it best for the pricing. However, in my area there are no shops worthwhile to go to. Most of them specialize in Honda tunings or else they are just cheap. I am trying to find out if any of my buddies have any friends that can tune though. So for now I will keep the zzp tune. at least it beats the stock and will allow my car to run.

I got the stage 3 from zzp. I got the tune for E85. The idle was fine. It ran ok. I ran the car for about 2 weeks with the tune. I had problems but it was mechanical. A stupid mistake we made lol but it ran fine. But if you want power out of it get a custom tune. I made 293 on 18 psi but I'm running 17 psi at 283hp.

I made 220hp with the zzp tune.

depends on ur budget.. if u want to save a couple hundred bucks go with the canned tune... its better than gms because gm keeps it fairly rich for saftey purposes, zzp im sure just leans it out a lil creating more power.. IMO if you can get a decent price on tuner to custome tune you thats the way to go.. keep in mind you NEED a wideband for that which means you will need a downpipe(u could use the stock DP and use the bung for the o2 sensor and the tuner can delete the cars o2 but that wont provide proper numbers since its after the cat) not to mention whoever tunes you will then have your car unlocked for any modifications u need in the future that require a tune. Most tuners charge alot less for a re-tune.
thats my 2 cents

if not then search trifecta and you can send vince what your mods are and he will make a tune for you and then you get the cable and everything else and put it on your car...datalog it and send it back to him and he may send an update or say it is good
