I see nobody answered your question about the water lines. You tap into the heat core lines, which are right there next to the exhaust on the fire wall. Buy some rubber hose "T" fittings and water clamps, and there ya go. If you like, the Garrett alpha kit installation instructions are available on-line from the Garrett web site, and you can see exactly how they do it.

Ok so here is the deal. I was not able to get some ?'s answered but I finally got a hold of bigdave who I got the kit off of. He said he never ran water lines he only ran oil lines. So Not sure if the turbo is messed up or not now. It is def water cooled so I am going to have to get water lines.

What is the best way to connect the oil drain line to the oil pan?

 

Turbo's have to be oil cooled. Water cooling is optional, so you are probably fine. If you can hook it up, you should. It's easy on the Cobalts thanks to those heater lines being right there.

There are three ways I've seen the oil line return. First, is to drill the oil return boss in the lower girdle casting of the engine block. Again, the Garrett instructions show you how to do this. The other way is to drill the oil pan just below the cast boss in the exact same way. The third way is the Hahn racecraft way where they drill the water pump access plate. Ofcourse for all of these you will need to get some AN fitting to hook everything up.

 

You'll have to drop the oil pan, then drill a hole a little smaller than your fitting, then you have to tap the oil pan to get it threaded. Then you just screw on the fittings, make sure there's no metal flakes left and refill with oil.

 

Pick up gasket maker from gl, they use special gasket silicone crap fir the pan, anyone remember the part #?

 

Thanks for all of the information. The garrett instructions should help w/ my build. Where do I get the fittings for the oil pan at? Also what type of material should I use for the water lines since it will be hot near the turbo

 

AN fitting can usually be purchased from any good performance auto parts store (not autozone). Aircraft suppliers also have them. But the best source is the internet.

autozone does sell fittings...but i bought mine from super autobacs

well I am getting nowhere with the sale so might have to keep it in the long run.

 

Well I am not having any luck with the sale on the whole kit but I have had offers but with only owning this thing for lil a week I am not willing to loose money on selling it. I want what I paid lol. So my buddy has a freshly rebuilt 16G Mitshubishi turbo and it has the same flange and the same hot side for my exhaust housing so I am set with a bigger turbo. Only 75 bucks. I might just have to wait on repairing the body for now lol

Well some information to keep everyone updated. I have been at college so no time to mess with the car. This weekend I am test fiting everything so that will let me know if I can weld any more pipes together to cut back the couplers and so I can raise the intercooler up.

I have 2 turbos in line along with the one I have so not sure which one I am going to use

Also getting a boost controller

Bought my cobalt series boost gauge off of Mike25 !!! So I will be waiting on that to come in the mail

 

I put that gauge on my car saturday, it's really sweet looking at night.
