2.2L Intake Mod with Pictures!!

Well, I got an answer to all you 2.2L guys looking to get a little more HP and Throttle response out of you 2.2L's that won't cost you a penny. Basically I removed the factory silencer out of the front of the air box which i didnt think was so big until I pulled it out of there. Looks stock, But It made a huge difference in throttle response, no more sluggish delayed response when you hit the gas, and it sounds better with a nice deep tone when you get on it. hope you all enjoy it, next will be a cheap custom pipe from the other side of the box to the throttle body.

1. remove headlight and headlight bracket:

2. remove the entire silencer assembly from the car, which you then have a huge open space.

3. This is the air silencer. Very restrictive...

4. This is the stock base of the factory airbox.

5. This is the whole on which the factory silencer tube was running though. Now it is just in the open space which if you have factory fog lights the grates will allow cold air to rush in there. If not there is plenty of cold are coming in from the side of the radiator and the body.

finally re-install the headlight bracket and the factory airbox and it looks perfectly stock it will not void any warranties that I know of.

Hope this help everyone, like I said the sound and the throttle response alone is pretty amazing. As far as mileage not sure yet, but I will comment on that as soon as I see what it does.

I've seen several people do this mod but I've always been a little skeptical. I'm sure it sounds louder but is it helping us produce any extra power? I'd like to see a before/after dyno chart. Sure the difference would be minimal, but I wouldn't want to trade power for sound.

people have been doing this for well over a year, it's one of the first things i did when i got my car. good post nonetheless.

you can also take it off by peeling back the fender liner.

Would this still be worth doing with the GMPP intake?

You know, I saw this thing this weekend when changing my fogs and painting my headlights. I was wondering what the hell it was. I would love to see if there truly is a difference before and after.

What exactly is this piece designed to do?

it sounds louder, and you'll feel a little more kick... i can't see it adding more than like 2 hp, but it makes a slight difference.

Would prob make the GMPP intake sound a lot deeper, but there's only one way to find out for sure.

ok guys, drove the car to work about 10miles.. You can definetly feel a difference between 3000-4500RPM. It revs quicker, and I kinda noticed this not only by the seat of my pants, but the tach has that vibrative movement when it revs quicker than the tach can register at the time, Some of you guys may know what I am talking about but besides that it sounds pretty sick. Its probably if anything more torque than HP increase but i am sure its a few more ponys. Nice Low deep tone, under normal driving its sounds the same.

Its is there for silencing the air intake to obviously not hear the low tone. Its also there for emissions Bull $hit which honestly who cares its not going to make a difference there anyways for emissions.

It took me about 20 mins to get it done.. I found it way easier to remove teh headlight bracket than the bottom covers. Just and Fyi...

Thanks for the update. Looks like the gains are legit. I'm interested in what nramlow2006's Dashhawk has to say.

Damn you guys I wish you had posted this like last week. I have now removed that headlight 4 times now in the last 4 days. between fog light change, removing to paint the headlight, exchanging chrome turn signal that shattered after a days use with stock one, and installing better turn signals yesterday. LOL

The first time I removed it, it took me about 8 minutes to get the angle right. Now I can pop it off in 30 seconds.

repped, thanks. What kind of data can you get from the dashhawk? Any before/after comparisons are appreciated.

i have a K&N drop in filter, i have done this mod and i have a dashhawk, problem is that i get varying times on my quarter anyway, i also have removed the big ****** intake resonator(the piece that sits on the throttle body) i have noticed a HUGE difference, not only just the sound cause i honestly don't care about that, but the throttle response is WAY better, i hated it when i would hit the gas then a second later the tach would move and the throttle would kick in.
i don't know about actual HP gains but some torque is definite!
