That thing looks like a black dryer vent with a painted maxwell house can on the end of it. If you really want it go build it. It looks like a $20 build at home depot. Personally, I would save your money & get a proper intake. Maybe cut back on cookie's & chocolate milk for a bit lol!

Ok obviously everyone on here has spent way to much money on an intake...im totally not bashing anyone with a known name intake but come on guys. all an intake is is thin chrome plated piping that runs from your engine to a filter... other then a name your buying the same thing. Yea if the metal was cheap and fell apart all the time yea its a peice ofshit but it works just fine. If you may know i do have the $90 dollar one off of ebay and i still have it today and works awesome, looks awesome, and sounds awesome, yea i dont have the cool AEM sticker but it works just as god as an AEM intake.

anywho Metal intake absorb more heat then plastic any ways i might add. the intake piping from autozone is rediculously cheap cuz its thin plastic that can actually break so dont get that stuff. if you want to return your intake or "say" you have an AEM or K & N get one but u can always get a cheaper no name one off of ebay and buy the Sticker for like 5 bucks haha im kidding im kidding thats like putting an ss badge on a ls. ok one more thing... if it was more complicated like a JDM TURBO KIT haha yea stuff is junk and will break cuz it moving parts, but lets have some common sense here. ITS PIPING!!! not a turbo or a motor or anything crazy like that.

im with everyone else here theres nothing wrong with an ebay intake they all work the same (just dont get the one you posted) the only thing you have to worry about is that theres not gonna be any instructions so if your a first timer you'll have to browse around here for a how to but thats not really that big of a deal either lol

oh one more thing make sure you get a cold air dont go short ram if you want that just take out the drop in filter and the cover from your air box get some flex pipe and a k&n filter and your done lol

From waht I understand the difference between a metal tube vs. that dryer vent looking stuff is the way the air moves through the piping. EX. if you were driving down a road like this __________, it would be faster than /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\. You get what you pay for can't be said enough.

Just read the description, it doesnt include the filter. But its still inexpensive. You could just buy a k&n filter and then you have a k&n cai for a fraction of the price

Seriously, that same filter and pipe can be found at advanced auto for $40, The ebay listing is for 100 with shipping. You can definently find a better intake for the price, just go to the classifieds and post a WTB thread for an intake, im sure someone has one to sell. As for the tsudo exhaust, alot of people on here like them alot, im actually ordering one as soon as i get my tax money. Also what year is your car? If your an 06 you may have sai and will want to get an intake that supports it. Some people have used breathers at the end of the hose but thrown a MIL or the tubing comes to close to the belt.

I have an 07 2.2L ectotec.

So theoretically(sp?) I could simply take the correct size pipe and stick it on there with a filter on the other end and it is the same thing? Not trying so sound stupid (I know I am) I just don't know alot about cars. But to me, it sounds like that's all I would have to do, and it would work the same. Just keep the "filter end" away from the engine and now it's a cold air intake? That's essentually(sp?) what the pics of cold air intakes look like to me. I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong.

It's not really simple. You have to make sure the MAF sensor is close to the stock position. You also have to make sure the pipe has a nice flow to it so you don't get a lot of turbulence.

But yes you can go to autozone and make an intake. With a good filter on it you would be good to go. The reason intakes like the JDM and ebay intakes work is because they are usually reverse engineered products.

I dunno, i think you guys read way to much into the plastic vs. metal tube part. I can drive for an hour and the intake isnt hot all to the touch.

But, when buying, I go with name brand because, they will be more likely to help should a problem arise.

Thanks for all the help so far. I also would like to hear from anyone who actually has the intake I originally posted about or anyone who has seen it in action. I am not concerned about the tube melting or anything like that, because the car comes stock with a plastic tube, and it's still there....

Any other help is still greatly appreciated! Or if you find a cold air intake that is cheap and still good, with no added tin-can sound, please let me know.

I say go to pep boys or autozone or something and buy the $50 intake kit, it's the same thing as any other intake I don't care what anyone says, you'll spend half the price for one that works the same and gth you can buy the pieces to make it any shape or lenth you want, I've had my current one on my last car and I put it on the Cobalt as soon as i bought it. haven't had any problems with it...

the intake is plastic but it's not going to melt, trust me my old cavalier used to overheat all the time and the engine would get scortching hot, with the plastic intake resting on top of the valve cover and there isn't even a mark on it, so don't let anyone tell you any BS about it melting or w/e

oh and it's the spectre kit

there really isnt that much to it deerhuntr. Any name brand intake will work fine, and most of the ebay ones will work as well. (aside form that corrugated thing) Check the classifeds and make a thread there. there is always something for sale.

Does that (i think its stupid) plastic cover that goes over the engine still fit on if you put an intake on? Or is it really for cosmetic purposes? Cuz I'll take any excuse to take that thing off... lol

Oh, and blackBalt, Your car looks pretty f-ing sexy....

Thanks bro.

the plastic cover **** pops off, but the ugly piece over your throttle body is the restrictive ass stock air intake, which you need another intake for it to come off cuz then you'd just be running straight throttle body

but the piece over your valve cover will come off if you take your oil cap off and pull it... (yeah it's just for looks)

yea I believe it can stay on. but then again, I took that off literally within the first hour of buying the car. And never tried to put it on when i had the intake on.

Yea, I mean I've taken the cover off before, but never really had a reason to keep it off because I didn't want to fix it up at the moment, but now......

I'm hittin up autozone and Advanced auto on the way home today.... Def. def. definately hitting them up..

I must tell you though for your MAF sensor there's an adaptor you need to buy (if you're running a full intake) some stores might have it and some won't, it's an adaptor by spectre and should take about 3-5 buisness days to come in, what I did before i got that adaptor was run the piping into the stock airbox...

here's a pic of how it used to be

but seriously i say take that damn engine cover off, these cars come with too pretty of motors to be covered up by a big black piece of plastic
