Serpentine belt?

I just did mine the other week. here is the how to:
hmm. cant link to other cobalt forums. PM me if you want a link.

Basically, jack the car up, take the right front tire off, inner fenderwell out, and jack up on the oil pan, gently.

unbolt hte motor mount on the pass side, pick the motor up a little, then use a breaker bar on the tensioner to get the old belt off.

I was always under the impression that you simply remove the old belt, and then install the new one.

Take a fat breaker bar and push down on the tensioner with it. It's kind of a pain in the ***** but it's do-able.

take a 15mm open end and get it on the tensioner and push forward and down with ur right hand with ur left pushing down on the tensioner pulley.. its easier if u have someone else pop the belt off the blower but u can get it off that way and then u should prolly start with the very back pulley putting the new one one.. get under the car for it or feed it through with a pry bar but thatd be tricky..

All I needed was the belt and a 3/8th breaker bar to do mine. There is a How to over at Your Cobalt.

Its not hard, use a 3/8th braker bar and a crowbar to wedge it onto the tensioner, it should take 3 minutes tops.

did you install the tensioner?

take it off... that should release the tension on the belt so you can change it <shrugs>

When searching for the serpentine belt for a 2006 2.4, I am finding different lengths between brands such as Dayco and Goodyear, does anyone have any suggestions on which part to go with?

I bought a 40" dayco belt from Autozone, removed the passenger side front wheel and the platic peice at the lower front, had perfect access. The tensioner was a little dificult without a breaker bar but I made it work. Quick and easy job believe it or not...took me longer to set the torque wrench to 100 pounds

I've heard of people jacking up the motor to access the belt. If someone has to go through all that to change the belt they have no idea what the hell they are doing and shouldn't touch a car. This car, you remove the plastic cover just like a lot of other 4 cylinder motors and you access it like that with no problem.
