Cams on N/A

Is anyone running cams such as these on a N/A 2.2 Cobalt?

I'm thinking down the road after I finish doing all the bolt ons about where I want to go with the car. I'm not interested in forced induction, I just want to pump some extra power out of the motor while I wait for the 2009 Camaro.

I've been doing some thread searching and I realize tuning is really vital to getting these cams to their full potential... maybe I should email HPTuners....AGAIN lol.

You'd be wasting your time.

If you want to get cams, I would also suggest doing some headwork as well. It won't be cheap, but you'll have a pretty nice n/a setup once you're done.

On the stock computer the Comp Cams stage 1 will get you around 10 HP on a stock engine. With HP tuners i could bet you would see around 12-15 with these cams with additional tuning.

However, these cams work very well for being a direct drop in with no other mods needed.

Its very possible to use a piggyback to tune for some bigger cams. You could use the AEM FIC to run stock LSJ injectors and increase fuel where its needed.

Dont know about your 2.2 but on a 2.4 stage 2 cams dont need tuning..tuning will net greater results, but my powerband loves its intake cam..

It's still strongly recommended that tuning is used for best results. Why buy something and not use it to its full potential?

What tuning options are available through piggybacks?

2.2 cams don't work for the 2.4 and vice versa so that's really a dead issuse in the door. i am interested in these stage 1 cams though.

AEM Fuel/Ignition Controller, PerfectPower SMT-6/7 and UniChip Q are the only ones I know of that will work. AEM FIC is by far the best because of its feature to allow for you to run larger then stock injectors.

I know, the 2.2 ECM is always "in development, but not scheduled to be released on our next cycle.... etc etc etc" FTL!

I believe that the cam sensor was added for the 2007 as well as other motor tweaks, including a more melow stock cam.

I wouldn't add camshafts untill you have things like a bigger tb, intake manifold, and a header. Some kind of tuning is preferred too. Sure there's camshafts out there that you could throw in there for some gain... but there's better ways to spend your money for gains unless you have at least some bolt-ons and tuning. Figure you're going to spend about $200 per camshaft(intake and exhaust. not including installation costs and other minor parts like gaskets and such you have to replace when taking it all apart.)... and you're only gonna get 10hp out of it, which might not even be at the wheels.

While you're changing out your camshafts it might not be a bad idea to port match while you have it all apart either.

if you're staying N/A I wouldn't even bother with any cams that are going to run out of breath by 6500.

I am dying to drop some cams into this motor but its pointless right now for me because theres no way to bump up the stock redline.
