Actually I just messed up that sentence. Do you understand the difference of pressure on a positive and negative scale. A roots type blower is a positive displacement pump, its flows a sustained amount of air the boost pressure is only relative to the restriction of the motor. Its like adding an extra liter to the engine since it will constantly flow the same amount of air. So if the atmospheric effciency of the engine is at its best you will have to work the supercharger harder to make a set power number. Increase the atmospheric effciency of the engine and now you can work the blower less to make a set power number.

It's alot simpler on a turbocharged engine where you can just up the boost to compensate and if the turbo is still in it effciency range you'll have little negative effect. But with a roots type you will experience a power loss, now you have to work the blower harder to copensate for the loss, which is going to create parasitic loss across the board.

Then again I've built quite a few dufferent engines but I guess I don't know what I'm talking about.
