installing new cam need help

installing new cam need help

i need to no if the timing can be kept with out take off the lower cover on side of the motor when installed a new cam ?

best just go ahead change the cam and properly retime the engine or take the risk of throwing the timing off and doing a costly engine rebuild. there have been a few members on this board that tried the easy route and wound up getting bit.

ok thanks for the help , im have a hard time fined a cam for my hhr ls 2008 2.2 crower cam can regrind my cam or make me one. i tryed jbody can not get them on phone or dealer not in bus. do anyone know how to get them

Not sure on the hhr but on the 07 and up cobalt you can get the comp cams and get the cam sensor pressed on...

ok is the cams the same size? i know that the sensor is made in the head on my car thats what dan told me at GM performance so would i still need the sensor ?

you would use the sensor from your stock cam. i can't recall the name but a guy on this forum did this some time back.

thanks for the reply. is the cam the same size in the 06 & 08 i like to use the comp cam. talk to crower cams today, they work on price for me

They are the same but if I'm not mistaken you have to grind them down to get the cam sensor on there. That's why they aren't listed for 07+

ok so where would i get the sensor or would i take it off my old cam ? and is it a lot of work and hard to do ? im thinking should i just let crower cams regrind my cams ? what do you guys think? thanks for the in put I just what to do this one time

ok i i'm just trying to get every thing together , SO DO I TAKE MY SENSOR OFF MY CAM OR CAN I BUY ONE? I have new vavle springs , retainer & pulley. just need this last part before i take my car to the shop just dont want my car sit there for weeks WAIT ON PARTS. THANKS FOR YOUR THIS IS NEW TO ME!!!!!

thanks for the help i sended my cams to crower for regrind.so do i need to change my timing gears up top ? on my way now thanks for the feed back guys glenn

get the adjustable cam gears and you'll be able to dial in the cams after you do the initial re-timing. i don't believe all the cammed ecotecs went with the adjustable cam gears because the are not required.
