how nice is a painted intake manifold going to look? might as well replace my hoses with some pretty pink ones while i am doing that rainbow intake mani paint job.

hey im prettty good friends with everybody over @ gravana and they told me that the venom is the best one on the market right now but the problem is that our computer's wont alloy the manifold to even work so until a programmer comes out the manifold is a waist of money,so give it some timehttps://www.cobaltss.net/forums//images/smilies/cssNET.gif

how does putting on a new intake manifold even affect the PCM?

it dosnt affect the pcm but the problem with our computers is that they are pre-programmed to run a certain mixture each way either lean or rich and it can only go so much each way,so if you you put that beautiful intake on there you wont get the full performance out of it because you cant tell it how much fuel to run to make up for all the air it's getting....plus why do that intake unless you change the throttle body and what manufactures are sayin is why spend the time and money in developing a throttle body for this little car and maybe sell 10,000 units or design a TB for the new charger, and the new mustang and sell 100,000 units

the question was why would you need a pcm reflash for an intake manifold, not why would you need a bored tb for your car. you wouldnt need a pcm reflash for a new intake manifold.
these manifolds are built to accomodate larger throttle bodies, putting a larger one on isnt going to do alot of good without boost. we arent talking about whether we should install a bored throttle body, you could do that on the stock manifold.

i think a few hp would come out of just bolting it on but with anything tuning will always get the most hp

ok...let me breake it down to you THE INTAKE BY VENOM IS BIGGER THEN THE STOCK INTAKE,more air from the intake means you need more fuel. To mix properly you would need to reprogram the computer, the stock computer will only allow so much fuel THATS WHAT I WAS TRYIN TO SAY

the venom intake manifold is bigger? thats funny, cause i have this little email in my inbox that says it will be the exact same size, will bolt up without modification.

anyways, more air in the intake plenum means that the injectors have to pump out more fuel. this isnt going to happen unless you are hard on the throttle and maximize use of that space. for an N/A car with bolt ons, i would never expect to see any sort of problem with the PCM doing this. your restriction isnt going to be the PCM, it will be the injectors, when they need replacing, you need some tuning.

Please, by all means, correct me if i am wrong.

ok look im just relayin the info i was givin and my sources are pretty well known i think half of you have stuff on your cars from them(gravanatuning),the intake is the same size as far as intake and the ports but the runners are bigger on the inside, thats what makes the difference

ok... question... will my car still work if i put it on for now... lol.. if it still runs and its just a few hp for now until a programmer comes out then i will still get it and just take the couple extra hp for now now.. Im trying to get as much hp n/a as possible so im looking at any and all bolt on parts. I found a half way decent price on one and im trying to decide if im going to get it

I'm gonna give my honest opinion on the whole pre-programed fuel curve issue. You guys say that this thing is programmed to only run so much fuel either way. ( to make it more rich or lean) Well let's think about this. How is a computer that is pre-programed going to work in 90 degree weather and -20 degree weather. Everyone knows the cold air is condensed and would require more fuel than it would with hotter air. Granted to car is going to pull timing based on this but it is NOT going to let the engine run lean is a colder environmet. I'd hate to tell you guys but i think it's alot of bs. Your engine is going to do whatever it has to do to run stoich.

yeah but look how many times its been said and look how many times someone has argued otherwise
if they are so sure, let them buy one and reprogram

just to be clear, i agree 100%

Your ECM calibration may be the least of your worries. The Venom intake was designed to function only with a "cable-type" throttle body AFAIK. Note the IAC valve port cut into the TB mounting flange? The throttle-by-wire setup doesnt use an IAC and has a different sealing profile and mounting flange dimensions than the intake shown in the pics .
I think the Venom (at least the pics that I have seen) was designed for the J-bodies.
At the very least I would call Venom to see if they had a different PN# specifically for the TAC equipped vehicles.

Let me try and put some of your worries to rest about this product and its ECU compatibility.

First, WOP probably has the better point. Make sure it'll work on a Delta platform first.

Second, Deltas have two computers, a Powertrain Control Module which is mostly in charge of the transmission, and an Engine Control Unit which is in charge of fuel and ignition.

Third, I am running at a reduced compression ratio right now with Wiseco 8.9 to 1 pistons. I also have a slightly higher load on my timing chain with a Ferrea valve train. I am on the stock, unaltered, ECU. I have no problems. I highly doubt that changing the shape, size, material, length, whatever, of a piece of exterior plumbing is going to cause you any trouble at all.

*EDIT*
WOP has informed me that while my desciption is mostly correct, my terminology is off. The trans computer is called a TCM and the engine computer is an ECM. Also, that data is accurate only for the Cobalts with automatics.

the throttle body is drive by wire, not the intake manifold.

quite right, but they have the same bolt pattern as the j-bodies.

I'm not talking about the bolt PATTERN, I'm talking about the the machining for the IAC and the grooved sealing pattern- DIFFERENT!
Take your throttle body off and compare it to the pics of the Venom.
WOT

<EDIT> Actually after looking at the Venom more closley it MAY still work, as long as the seal along the the top edge (closest to the head) still seals the bore. And hopefully the IAC porting doesnt cause some sort of "tip-in" issue. Maybe Venom would drop the price if hey eliminated that IAC machine work

My TAC intake flange vs Venom

take a moment to read what civickiller said and then go look under your hood. drive by wire vs drive by cable = different throttle body CONTROL. this means that the pretty lil gold flappy thing in the throttle body is controlled electronically versus by cable. other than that it is EXACTLY THE SAME. that is the drive by wire that you keep referencing saying that a manifold from a jbody wont work.
the guy helped me out with taking numerous parts off my cav when i got my balt, trust me, he knows his ****.
