Lightbulb possible engine swap?

Alright so i've been wondering about doing an engine swap into my car in the near future for a while now. My friend has a 98 caviler Z-24 and replaced the stock 2.4 with a 04 malibu motor being the 3.5 V6. Is this possible? I have seen the 04 ls malibu's with the 2.2 I-4 and the V-6. Are the motor mounts the same?

I just think this would be a bad ass little car with a V-6 N/A and it the future turbo.

Doesnt that Malibu 3.5 only have like 215HP? Not worth the extra weight IMO.

I have what? 130 right now? My car is slow as ***** and I would supercharge or turbo but id rather do something different. I didn't think about the weight factor though. A friend of mine is doing the cavi with the same engine and he's doing all the wiring and tuning so i was just wondering about the engine mount and trany difference if there was any and following his lead.

yeah that was the other part I was dreading, just throwing this idea up in the air. a V6 in a cobalt would be different and sound nicer

Go with a 3.8SC from a monte carlo/impala and a 4t65 trans... that would get up and go.

i herd a story from a guy back at a car show in Houston TX who claimed that his uncle swaped out his cobalt engine for a Volkswagen W8, i cant tell you if it is true or no but to me V8 means twin turbo, and the idea of a twin turbo cobalt makes me happy

alright well the feedback im getting isn't so positive. engine swap may not be the best route for me then. i just want more power. . . . stupid auto 2.2. how about any other options to look into. i know turbo and SC but what are my gains and cost?

i guess the thought of a v6 in the cobalt isn't practical. people have already answered that so i'll just leave it at that

Throw a HP number or 1/4 time out and we could help you better. Oh and dont underestimate spray. You could spray your way to 14's with a stock 2.2 Cobalt. I plan on a nice ass Direct Port setup eventually.

yeah i dont underestimate the spray at all, just nervous ill **** my car up in the end. i plan on 2.4 mani/tb, full exaust with high flow cat, and a trifecta tune. I though about nitrous but how stable is it with our plastic intake manifolds, internals, excedra?

Nitrous is very stable as long as you do it right.

Danger: Dry kit, I dont **** with them

Safer: Wet kit, but can still **** up with part falure

Safest: Direct Port Injection, very small margin of error.

My setup is going to be a computer controlled Direct Port with a WOT switch and an RPM switch. I will be spraying between 3k-5800 since I am an auto I dont trust the spray to be out of the line during a shift so I am safeguarding it. I am also gonna be running CO2 on the radiator to keep temps down so I can go with higher shots. I plan on using 20hp jets for a total of an estimated 80hp shot although if I run c16 I will be going with 30hp jets. I am also going to throw a wideband and a EGT guage along with oil pressure to further safeguard against catostrophic detonation.

if you want to spend money get a turbo

if you want to get some good cheaper power go SC

if you want to make your car full of fail in the engine bay go with the V6. :P

i would stick with some good stable forced induction over swapping in a motor thats gonna weigh a ton.

i win

...a 383 as in a SBC V8? cause that doesnt really refute his V6 argument
