Did you replace the Exhaust Header Gasket? Did a new one come with the the new header?

it came with a new gasket but its a pos. The mechanic had to cut down the cat to make room for the headers lenght. He said if i exparament with a new muffler it may help but i have a magnaflow on it. The sound also sounds like its from the header so why would a new muffler help?

do you have a resonator installed in your system? the bigger the resonator the quieter it will make the sound...

my Pacesetter should be here Tuesday, I wonder how loud mine is gonna be.

If the gains are good, i dont see a big issue

How much was it to install?

I bet if it was coupled with a Pacesetter Cat-Back it'd sound alot better, i plan on getting both

a) ihavent got it dynoed yet but i can really feel the gains, definatly worth the money

b) i have no clue what a resonator is

c) it cost like 150 for install but the mechanic is a family friend

d) has this happened to anyone else, pacesetter header or any other header?

Its only because the header is more free flowing, so your engine sounds wont be muffled anymore. If you read alot about our engines, you'd know that ECOTECs are very noisy engines, they make a lot of weird noises, and its completely normal. Wether or not this sounds good on our cars, i'm still getting it, becuase the gains are all i care about

good luck with your new header, and until i get one, i still envy you

can you take a picture of your cat and what the mechanic did? if he actually altered the cat itself, your problem may be the cat. i have heard of others that took theirs off to sound ricey.

a resonator is a second muffler located about in the middle of your car, it helps keep the exhaust noise down and the rasp out. i'm guessing if you don't know what that is then you don't have one, which is your #1 problem.

Exhaust is one of my least favorite things to **** with. You'll know when it's past the point of no return. Oh and yes check gaskets as already stated. I'm sure it was a pain in the ***** to install.

Like said before, check your gasket.

If you saw that the gasket was a POS, you should have never used it and stuck with your stock gasket, it wouldn't have made a difference. Heck, you could even go to your local store get a Felpro gasket for a few bucks.

If he's got the 2.2 magnaflow catback installed he should have a resonator, the 2.0L has a huge one from what I can tell and the two systems are nearly identical.

Possibly if you use a high quality recording device. Problem is most of the time the audio quality is so bad you couldn't tell what you're listening for...it's worth a shot though if you want to take the time to do it.

Is this sound coming from the engine compartment or out the rear where the exhaust tone come from?

Just thinking, if its from the engine compartment then you might have a leak, or the thinner tubing of your header allows more sound to pass through which i noticed on mine.

If its coming from the rear then you might have something loose inside your exhaust that is flapping in the flow.

As already stated check again for an exhaust leak. If you are not sure what an exhaust leak sounds like (once you've heard one you'll know) then perhaps this is all it is. It is very noticable and once it is gone all is well.

the stock gasket is okay to use? it wont interfere with the larger runners? if so I guess I'll stick with the stock one.
