In other words, I want to know what a Cobalt LS will do 0-60 wise if it has:
-GMPP cat back exhaust
-GMPP extrude honed exhaust manifold
-GMPP ram air intake

Isn't there a ported intake manifold by GMPP also?

One other question, going from steel wheels which I believe the 15s are 20lbs a piece and getting a set of 15lb alloys, how much on the 0-60 in fractions of a second will this shave off?

It depends on a lot of factors like where you live, whether you have an automatic or a manual, and how much else is done to the car (weight reduction, etc.). I imagine it would compare to getting any exhaust, intake, and header—a few horsepower gains (15-25 whp), but nothing like forced induction. The only real way to find out is to take one to the track.

 

Just say the temp outside is 70 degrees, and we are at sea level with an automatic.

I heard on a car that weighs around 2800lbs, 30 hp will knock off 1 second on the 0-60. But again, factors like aerodynamics and the gear ratio come in.
I think the Cobalt is ok aerodynamically and the gearing is good on the automatic.

When I first bought this car, it was sluggish. After 10k miles, it is so much quicker and responsive than what it was originally.

I honestly believe that the write-ups on the 2.2 Cobalt are not accurate on the 0-60. They test drive them when the car was not broken in yet.

 

Crateenginedepot.com is offering a intake manifold conversion from the 2.2 to 2.4 and they dyno'd 13hp more

I bet this manifold with the GMPP ram air and a ported tb would be amazing.
Even more so if it was an Injen CAI.

Probably close to 20+hp total gain on the intake side!

 

do you know gm has a supercharger kit for the 2.2?

 

I know about that supercharger kit, but it is for the Cavalier and Sunfire and not the Cobalt.

The Cobalt 2.2 has no tuning package as of yet, or do they?

There is no tuning so boost = blown up car

The reason I ask about what the 0-60 is on an LS with all the toys GMPP offers is to have a car that is still under warranty.

The SS 2.4 is around a 7.3 second 0-60, the LS is 7.87 seconds.
For the ones who say 8.4 seconds, that is for the 4 door sedan.

If I can get 25 or more horsepower from these upgrades, it should knock off close to a second on the 0-60 as I said that the general consensus has been that a 2800lb car needs 30 or so hp to knock off 1 second on the 0-60 depending on aerodynamics and gearing.

I can only guess that an LS with 25 extra horses will have a 0-60 in 7.3 seconds.I do not want to guess here, as I know there are a few of you that have these mods and have timed their 1/4s and 0-60s.

Anyone with those times please?

 

A full GMPP Cobalt runs about 9.5 seconds in the 1/4

 

I'm guessing, 7.4 seconds. I heard the 2.4 runs like 7.24 seconds 0-60. The Ls/Lt run around 7.9

Well if you bought everything in the GMPP build book (not just intake, exhaust) yeah...9.5 is very doable.

lol i figure it'll run about 7 seconds in the 0-60, just my opinion, mines running 7.98 or so right now, depending on the temp, and i'm completely stock. I'm guessing 7 flat.
But i'm getting dynos and 0-60's and all that stuff of my STOCK 2.2 so i'll always have reference.

 

Just FYI, most of these parts are tested on a stock motor and the posted gains are on a stock motor. Once you start moding a motor you could by say a CAI that is said to increase HP by 15, but that is on a stock motor. On a already modded motor the gains will actulaly be less. You can flame away if you do not belive me, but you will not get the full HP gains from a combination of parts unless it is advertised as a so. For example, say you buy a CAI that claims a 15 HP boost, a cat back that claims a 15 HP boost, and a header that claims also a 15 HP boost. You will really in all reality see about a total gain of around 35-40 HP gain. This can also work in reverse in sertain forced induction engines. You could by exhaust, CAI, and Header DP combination that is suppose to add say 10 HP each for a total of 40 HP. But if you ran this in the combination with say more boost, then the added abilty to flow more air and exhaust with the extra boost could actually net you gains of around 50HP. That is not counting the gains you recieved from running the more boost too. I guess my only point is that you can never count on a manufactors claims of how much HP there product will add, it is the right combination of products combined with the relization of the limits of your motor. Your motor will only be capable of making so much power until you start messing with major stuff like cams, head and valvetrain work, compression, and other major power adders.
