hey guys and gals i've been having a little problem with my 2009 G5 2.2....i keep getting the smell of exhaust fumes inside my car. I mostly smell it when im driving with the window open mostly....i've had this car since it was new and it has been doing this since i got it....the dealership says they cant see anything wrong.... it be's there mabey 60% of the time....any help will be GREATLYYYY appreciated...thanks....oh and its not coming from other cars because i smell it when there no other cars around .

 

I think there was a fuel pump recall or something maybe cuz its leaking... either that or the only thing i can think of is an exhaust leak so d u hear a exhaust leak?

 

i cant hear any exhaust leak ....got any other ideas on what it could be?

it sounds like your fuell pump i just had to get mine replaced mine was BAD they said if i had drivin it one more time catasrofic failure, and i got a headache evrytime i drove the car from the fumes, Get it fixed Goold Luck

I was smelling GALSOLINE fumes,

 

ohhh.....im smelling exhaust but i cant hear or see any leaks its got me puzzled (2009 G5 2.2 with 46000KM) ive been smelling it every since the car was new and dealership says they can't find anything wrong.

 

what kind of exhaust smell? like when you first start up and its kind of gassy smell or when youre on it and it smells like that?

sometimes it can circle around even when youre driving

 

it smells like **** sometimes no joke lol ....if it was the CAT or an O2 sensor that would cause the check engine light to come on wouldn't it??

wouldnt necessarily throw a code/light

 

its the cat, wont throw a code unless the o2 sensor burns out

 

Youre wrong. It will throw a code because the values that the front o2 is reading sets the parameters and if the rear reads the same or close to the same values as the front it throws a code because the cat isn't working..

yea but Dub is right. cat fails it longer is a catalyst so the readings would be off, unless it is an extremely rare case

 

I had to get a new flex pipe and new cats its all one piece ......i still smell exhaust inside the car with window open....so it cant be the CATS.... and im after trying every gas station in town and every grade of gas (87,89,91) and dont make any difference. I also tried changing air filter no difference.

There may still be oil in your exhaust that needs to burn
