lash adjuster install help/actuator locking tool?
hey guys, i just got my new lash adjusters in and want to install them right so i broke out the ol' haynes repair manual. it says for 2008 and newer models to use a camshaft actuator locking tool, i tried searching for the tool online and i cant find anything. im going to try and stop by the dealer today if i can get there after work. but im asking you guys if you know any way of doing this without the actuator tool(s) or where to buy a tool. thank you!

My guess is that the tool is used just to keep the cams in their original position so when you go to put the motor back in time it's easier. I'm not completely sure about the LAP because you have VVT but at least with the L61 getting the motor in time is not really difficult. If timing procedure is the same for your motor also, then you shouldn't need the tool.

Yea the timing procedure is the same the hard part is not screwing with the Vvt actuators. I'm gonna take off my valve cover and try and figure something out

Yeah I know nothing about how the vvt actuators work so sorry I can't help you as far as that goes. My only suggestion for timing is to have a helper because an extra set of hands helps a lot. Not impossible alone but can get kinda frustrating

you need the tool cause of the torque procedure, its hard to hold the cam in place to torque proper degrees with using wrench on cam and you could cause chain to jump a tooth, if you order one it will take at least 3 weeks to get it thats how long it took my dealer to get one

thank you, i think Tom from CED is working on that. meanwhile i went to a closer dealership and asked them for the tool and he said that they dont have any tools and gave me this weird look then i turned around and left. wtf lol
so now im wondering wtf to do. i cant paint mark the actuators to see if they move when i torque them down or is it pretty much impossible to not have them move?
another thing i was thinking about that idk if its possible and is a major long shot is this...
would i be able to swap heads with a l61 and just delete VVT? reasons being; this is a pain, ive heard that no one can really unlock the phasers tuning wise, and also there arent any cams for the LAP because of VVT. like i said its a long shot but if my theories are right, could have some potential

Got the tool in, now just wondering how to use it. The Haynes manual In order to take off my cams I need a timing chain retaining tool and to remove the actuators themselves. Do I need to do that? Thanks
