2.2 good bye hello 2.4SS

I am gettin a 2006 SS in Ultra Blue Metallic and tradin in the LS.
How much hp will i have if i put a Injen CAI, DC Sports Header and a Good Cat Back Exhaust.
I hate to see all of my work go down the drain in the LS but with only a few mods i can make the SS faster than the ls ever could be.
Just a quick question is there a rev limiter on the 2.4 auto like the LS that only goes to 4K

Umm...no...there is a speed governor at 130 MPH

I have just a CAI and a GMPP touring cat back and put down 167 to the wheels...

...get a down pipe along with the header...

Sweet!

With those mods you would probably have 165WHP?

When the car isn't moving the rev limiter is at 4000 so you don't blow the motor. While driving it is 6700.

auto, you will be lucky to be out of the 16's, or high 15's. honestly, i would keep the 2.2 for now. i think you'll be disapointed with the automatic 2.4. you probably will barely even feel a difference, you're talking about a difference of 15-20 whp

dude ur gonna love the 2.4. i know its a slight difference but its big to me. i had a 2.2 and just recently got the 2.4. its so much sweeter. no more downshifting for just little power response. the 2.4 is a great car and has a better value. get it!!!

no, not threatened at all. i'm not a little kid, i don't feel threatened by someone else's car

i owned a 2.2 for about 2 years, and also have driven a 2.4 many times, both auto. there was really no noticeable difference in speed is all i'm saying.

all around it's a much better car, but if you're getting it, and expecting to put bolt ons and be much faster than you were, it's going to be a disapointment. that's all.

yeah, i might have to side with him on this one. not much of a power difference. aside from that there is a difference in handling and driver comfort. go with an 07 and a manual transmission if you do make the change.

I've got a 2.4 and my buddy has the 2.2. both cars are decently modded and honestly there isn't that big of a differnce. I can probably out corner him and I think mine might be as a whole a nice car but If I had the 2.2 and was going to upgrade to a different Cobalt I'd skip right up to the 2.0. You'll be happier.

Downgrading engine size > going bigger.

In my case, 1.8 > 2.4.

you must have an automatic then cause on a manual you could bounce on the rev limiter even stopped/in neutral if you wanted to.

power increase might not be great if you're going from auto to auto.. get the 2.4 5 speed... that'll make a difference...

and IMO my stock 2.4 didn't really feel much slower then the redline i test drove..

having tuning alone is reason enough to upgrade to the 2.4 and the numbers from the few boosted 2.4s are reason enough not to go with an lsj... nice upgrade man

I went from an 06 LS to an 07 SSNA. The SSNA feels solid when compared to the LS -- more sound deadener and has a stiffer/firmer ride -- in that regard the 2-models are different. Performance is SLIGHTLY better in the 2.4 than the 2.2 with the same mods. In order to get the best acceleration in the auto SSNA you HAVE to remember to put it in "L" -- if not then you get a little wheelspin and that wonderful Traction Control kicks in and the 2.2 will walk away from you in 1st and 2nd. Having "SS" badges is nice -- just need to make sure that's worth the extra money to you. Knowing what I know now I would have started with the SSNA -- I made the mistake of wanting a Cobalt coupe and the local dealer didn't have nor wanted to order a SSNA for me (they had a LOT of Cobalt LSs/LTs on their lot) -- but the LS is nearly as nice because it cost so much less.

Exactly what i found going from 2.2 auto to 2.4 auto.... the low end torque is so much stronger

ive got an 06 2.4L auto and i love it. The magna flow exhaust, tune, and intake put me up to a good 200hp or just below that. Its 171hp stock i think...

You might enjoy the 2.4L more just for the simple fact that it has lots more standard options. My 08 Sport (new name for SSNA) is fully loaded and it is a sweet ride. I've got heated leather seats and remote start (which comes in handy A LOT). Is it "supah fassst"? Hell no. Is it a nice daily driver with a little more ass than your run of the mill Honda, you betcha. The only thing I might do to it besides the K&N intake I have already is the GMPP touring cat-back. And that would just be for a little more peppy exhaust note.

Bottom line is, if you're looking for a cheap fast car go buy a 4th Gen LS1 f-body, you can snag an SS or WS6 for a little over $10k now. And believe me, you won't be disappointed. You insurance and gas bill might kill you =P But who cares about $3.50/gal when you can go vroooooooom!?!

i concure. I went from a 2.2 to a 2.0 (college to full time job)..... trust me, you'll notice a difference.... and get a lot more rubbernecking in the process.

Look at dyno numbers. If you want 200 whp out of 2.4 you'll need bolt ons plus cams and ported throttle body. Oh and a tune.

Most with just bolt ons and a tune are getting 170-180 whp. Don't forget the rated numbers of 171 in the specs are SAE numbers and reflect flywheel HP.
