the diff. between a 2.2l exhaust and a 2.4l exhaust is size. the 2.2l stock exhaust is tiny (1.75"-2.00"). the 2.4l exhaust is 2.5" to the rear axle then it necks down to 2.25" to the muffler.
the catbacks out for the cobalt will fit all the diff. models (minus the ss/tc which has a 3 bolt connection flange). the diff. between the 2.2l corsa catback and 2.4l catback is most likely over diameter of the pipe. the corsa 2.2l catback is prob 2.25" and the corsa 2.4l catback is prob 2.50" o.d.

2.25" will prove to be a restriction with ur car especially if its modified. their setup may flow better than stock even tho its smaller but that would only be due to the muffler. go with 2.5". or possibly find a muffler u like and go to a shop and have them make u an axle back exhaust using that muffler for probably less than $200.
The cheapest would be since we already have 2.5 is to just get a over the axel 2.5, and a good header, and 2.5 downpipe. That's if you want to go the cheapest way. A muffler really just plays with sound. If you want the best flowing, then get a 2.5 catback, but will cost more $.
muffler really effect performance too. our muffler im sure is more of a restriction than the piping. honestly im not quite sure why everyone goes out and buys an exhaust system. a shop will do the same thing for you for half the price if not less. i had a kick ass exhaust on my old car, i just bought the parts i wanted (muffler, cat, flex, etc) online bc i could get them cheaper and then took it to the shop. the install + piping to connect all the parts i got + all the welds at ($10 a weld) all totaled like $130ish i think plus the $150-200 i spent on the components.

i didn't want the whole gmpp catback, because the piping is only 2.25" and will limit my build potential in the future. i know bigger isn't always better, but the stock ss/sc and ss/na have good size mandrel bent piping from the factory and flow well. The muffler is the restriction on the stock catback. the gains people feel from the gmpp exhaust on ss/sc's and ss/na's are from the higher flowing muffler and res. not the piping. when i found a guy on here selling just the muffler from the gmpp touring catback, i jumped all over it. so i took it to a performance exhaust / welding shop and had them weld it on along with custom 2.50 stainless axle back piping. the best part was the muffler was free, because i traded it for my cti downpipe, and the guys that welded it on were cool and only charged me $60.

Damn I want just the muffler now where can I find one? Cause I can probably get away with a GM muffler as opposed to anything else. Your not allowed to mod any part of the exhaust per NYS law, so at least I can say it's from GM, and the dealer installed it. (lie)

You could also try a dynamax super turbo muffler I here there preatty quiet and still give better flow than a stock muffler.
hey jason, what was that again? i think i may have missed it...
