I've seen V6 Cougars with duals that sounded fine. Our note isn't that much different from a small V6 (Cougs have a 2.5L).

no my point was a 2.5l six isn't going to respond sound wise to exhaust the same way a 2.0l four does and there are ALOT of differences there. comparing to the srt-4 was a better idea, but still, n/a four bangers with duals sound like ass from everything i have heard. I've never heard a good dual setup on any 4 banger besides this setup on an srt-4. http://www.modernperformance.com/dcx/srt_mpx_idle.mpeg

you will NOT see more flow from duals either. on a four cylinder any single can flow just as well as duals because you are limited to the flow of the header anyway. the header has one outlet unless you have one of the stupid ass true dual systems made for a 4 cylinder which is totally pointless until you are pushing MAJOR power, so even if you do go duals, you will have to go header, then a single pipe, doesn't matter how long it is, that is going to be a bottle neck and you can not flow more than that pipe allows.

Well, I think most modern duals - even factory installed ones, aren't true duals anyhow.. usually it goes from manifold(s)>y-pipe/x-pipe/whatever>main cat>muffler>pipe(s)exhaust tip(s).
Plus with a fwd you're going to have a little bit of bottle neck just based on how the engine is situated whether it's a v-platform with two manifold/headers or a 4 with a single manifold/header, that isn't to mention all the emissions garbage they stick in there. I'm not sure about the Cobalt yet, but the damn cougar had pre-cats inside the stock manifolds, and the front manifold sat right near the oil pan.. which was really great in the event your front pre-cat was clogging.

I hope whoever is looking for a dual option knows that it isn't going to sound like a Silverado with glass packs just becaue they put an extra pipe on there, but if he likes the look I think the performance would be about the same..

x2 Everyone ive heard sounds like a F-350 SuperDuty pulling away from you. But yeah I think dual pipes would looks good with the back end of the SS/NA depending on the size of the tips.
