2.4L daily driver build

Still need to get off my lazy ass and actually post up pictures of how my shitbox got put together but I think I will start it off with something more recent...

286hp. 274tq
stock engine, TVS 80mm, 60s, FMHE, Badmab shorty header, ZZP 3" downpipe, JMB 3" catback, JMB 3" intake, JMB flow thru option B, Dual pass, 7gph 50/50 water/meth, P&P tuned, spec 3+ clutch

13psi, 11.4:1 AFR, 21° timing

Dyno sheets still need to get scanned and posted. I have never dynod a vehicle before and I dont know much but to me, the torque curve looks pretty level and thats exactly what I was going for.

Cobalt ss 2.4L TVS dyno 1 - YouTube

Cobalt ss 2.4L TVS dyno 2 - YouTube

Cobalt ss 2.4L TVS dyno 3 - YouTube

Cobalt ss 2.4L TVS dyno 1 camera 2 - YouTube

Cobalt ss 2.4L TVS dyno 2 camera 2 - YouTube

next up...i will be breaking 350hp/350tq on this blower and stock lower end

built P/P head, 80s, 2.8"pulley, 14gph 100% meth, and whatever else I have to do to hit my goal

Looking good man! I still need to swing by and grab that lsj tb from you if you still have it.

But a bit more and you'll crack that 300whp mark! congrats!

My actual build from stock to m62 to tvs is on the local forum...but I will go ahead and post some of the better pictures...

empty

2.8 m62 test fit

moving MAF

wiring LSJ 2.5bar MAP to read 'IAT2'

my 1st attempt at wiring the LSJ throttle body. I used Beck's picture; But my LSJ pigtail had 2 different colored wires:
instead of tan and tan w/ white trace...I had black and black w/ white trace. 1st attempt was a negative. the TB was reversed
gas pedal closed TB and when I let off, the TB went WOT.

After about and hour of troubleshooting, I asked stlsho for help. Another hour passed, when I happened to look at hunterkillers thread.
He had some pictures, they looked good and James said 'try it'. We decided on just using crimp connectors in case it didn't work again..
IT WORKED!! so I need to solder them now.

All put together ready for a P&P tune

Spec 3+ clutch install highlights

aint nothing a brake lathe and 36grit paper on a die grinder cant fix

used badmab shorty

zzp 3" catted

lil methanol to brighten the day

JMB Performance 3" intake

JMB Performance flow thru tank

then Christmas present to myself

as she sat before TVS install

pulley boys tool works great

tvs left m62 right

still plenty of room

the end...

If you are asking about the option B tank, It is a custom fabbed tank built and powdercoated by JMB performance.

The upper mount and trans inserts are holding up to the abuse nicely too

Nother little update. I can hear the driver side CV starting to go...

its getting colder, my 40rolls turned into 50rolls, which are now 60rolls...I need better tires bad!

Recently ordered:
ZZP phenolic IM spacer
ZZP throttle body adapter/meth ports
-machined for ls4
2nd 7gph meth nozzle

I started about 4pm today and finished up at 7pm; not to bad

she is all pulled apart.

Here is the spacer; for the LE5, the bolts that come with the spacer appear to be m8 bolts when the 2.4s use m5 bolts...luckily we had some the perfect size at the shop

I dont like the way I routed these lines, my shop closes at 8pm and I rushed cause I needed to be out of there by 730 to close down.
I got on it enough slowly to purge the lines enough to check for leaks.
I will be redoing this tomorrow or maybe tonight...

Still about 1/4-3/8in clearance...That just means to be safe, I need to pulley down a few notches to a 2.7-2.8

Im itchin for them numbers...Kinda nervous about how she will hold up tho

I keep telling my buddies: "Im gonna keep pushing it until she lets go, I dont wanna see a little bitch let go like a cracked sleeve; I wanna see a damn rod go thru the hood at about 7500rpm in 3rd!"

And I will be doing exactly that...I hope

Good catch, never even thought to say anything bout that.
When my buddy was fabbing up the intake for his boss to weld, we decided to drop the pcm down so the intake wouldnt have to bend around it as much

He use the factory plastic 'bracket' and bolted the pcm to it and took a piece of angle aluminum and bolted it to the two bottom holes in the pcm. Just a quick and easy drop bracket. And its still high enough to keep it out of the elements too.

Now onto asking questions to the smarter people...

Eventually I am looking for the 500hp/tq supercharged and DD her, I have 3 other vehicles but I like having challenges to overcome...

I dont like buying too many things just to have to buy the next step up later down the road, almost seems like a waste of money...

1) 79s, 80s, or the full retard 190s for injectors? I am currently on the edge with the 60s and 1 7gph nozzle.

2) Also was looking into going with a full feed/return fuel setup from ZZP but I haven't seen many pictures on this style of fueling, most people end with the BRFP setup. How needed is it, and will it be effective on a DD turd?

3) Fuel pump, When are people having trouble with the factory ones? And are the issues in the flow rate of the pump or the fuel pressure? I will be getting a rewire kit soon, just unsure of the factory pumps, and I dont like pulling tanks out more than once; I do them all the time, but then again I get paid to do it.

4)Thinking about possibly getting in touch with ZZP about doing the electric h2o pump, haven't seen much with that on supercharged applications, and the serp belt routing, but curious about how effective it will be on a DD. And is it even feasible on the 2.4s without spending too much money?

5) When removing the h2o pump, you need to deal with the balance shafts; If I delete the h2o pump, is it just as simple as pulling the balance shafts out and putting the car back together or will I need to plug the balance shaft housings somehow?

6) Haven't really been much actual test data about ZZPs 2.4L cams, I know from the specs, they should do pretty good but I am just unsure about how effective they will be yet. The 350/350 build may not need them, the 500/500 build will have them.

7)Keep the dual pass or get a ported&polished single pass IM?

I think that is it for now...To those that have answers, thanks for the help in advanced before I forget.

Awesome set up man, good work. As for your questions:

1) I think 80's will do fine if you plan on continuing to run meth and not E85. However I'm not entirely sure how feasible 500whp on a tvs is.

2)BRFP will make tuning way easier and safer. The return will make idle/DDing way better. Getting 80's to run well on a non return system sucks.

3) No way pump will hold more than 350whp due to the flow rate, they simply aren't big enough which is the reason why people start to see low fuel pressure when they push the stock pump. Again depending on your fuel choice determines pump as aeromotives seem to not like E85. deatschwerks makes some great pumps though.

4) Electric water pump will obviously help parasitic losses however running a supercharger is a huge parasitic loss. Gains will be probably negligible (on an SC car at least) and won't be worth the money IMHO.

5) Balance shaft delete kits are what your looking for. That or neutral balance shafts. I have no experience with either so I won't comment.

6)Yes you will need the cams if you plan on trying to reach 500, I would contact them to see if they could do even higher lift ones or comp for customs.

7)Again for 500 you would need a ported single pass.

hmm...so...

1)80s it is with a full feed/return setup
-now should i get OTTP or ZZP feed/return...decisions decisions

2)I looked on ZZPs website and it states that the aeromotive pump wouldn't be warrantied for DD cars; And the "ZZP350" pump never states anything about working for balts, but most GM pumps will work in bout any other GM housing. The Deatsch pumps from OTTP seem good, will prolly get the DW300 if I go that route. Now to do research...

3) I know that the SC draws lot more power off the engine than the water pump, but since I will be in there dealing with the balance shafts anyways, I figured if I could just pull all that **** outta there just to keep from dealing with it down the road. I do ecotec pumps quite a bit, not hard at all, bout 2 hours if I take my time; Just dont want to deal with it on my car, lol.

4) I have seen the NBS and balance shaft delete kits, but they appear to both be "there" basically for the h2o pump, so if its possible to just pull the balance shafts, convert to electric h2o and never have to deal with it would be nice.

IF I get some free time in the coming weeks, I need to get in touch with ZZP and go over everything I want to do and their opinion about what would be the best and most efficient route to go about this.

gonna be a fun winter for sure...

500hp/tq is unobtainable on the TVS supercharger. It simply can't flow enough

if the TVS couldnt do it, more than likely an mp90 would max out "soon" after the tvs would.
would I be getting into big $ with something ignorant like 2.3L blower size?

then a custom crank would be needed cause a blower that size on lil 4cyl would rip the snout off the crank I would imagine..
