There is a guy I work with that has a 99 civic. He says it has a GSR engine and tranny (5sp) in it. Now I'm not sure we would ever race but would I be able to take him or would it be close. I have an auto that is completly stock. Might put a drop in K&N in but thats it.

 

depending on all his mods, his driving ability, you may have a chance since they have no torque but the only way to find out would be to race him

 

What he said. The gsr engines have 170hp in them right? They just have no torque. If he was stock, I think you could take him. If not, it would be real close.

 

a teg gsr in a light weight civic , should run solid 14's

plus they usually have the normal bolt on's header back exhaust , and intake

 

I do know that he has an aftermarket "fartcan" exhaust. I will try to find out more about it next time I see him.

Actually, most cars like that are overrated. My Accord would keep up with those easily. 93 EX coupe. 140 hp 142 tq. In low and mid RPM I'd kill.

I've never really raced anyone thus far. Just like you though, I have a stock engined 2.4 auto. If you do race him though, if you start from a stand still, throw it into low. It'll pull MUCH harder. Then just slip it into overdrive and keep 'er floored.
