rear mounting turbo kit
rear mounting turbo kit
Aight i just got done reading about a rear mounting turbo kit by STS. They sound pretty interesting but has anyone tried one or tried to duplicate this? Sounds way easier then boosting normally.
they put a rear mounted turbo on an ls1 camaro on the "power block" on tv and suprisingly their wasn't any turbo lag difference between the rear mount and the regular one......the rear mount however was a hell of alot easier to install.....if i ever decide to go turbo that's the way i want to go......oh and the horsepower gains were also very similar between the two
The bad thing is that there is a lot of piping to get all that routed and i wouldn't think that getting water on a hot turbo would be good. plus the exhaust has to be perfext with no leaks and you have to run oil and coolant lines. Seems like more work and more money than its worth.

I'll give you 10 Yen
STS is selling em for 4 grand and it looks liek they could be made on your own for cheaper since theres no header mod just the turbo and waste gate and mounting any one with some gumption could figure out that. And most people dont ahve any type of fender flaps anyways so whats the difference of the turbo getting hit with water like that or getting hit with water in the engine bay. Plus i hear the piping is a snap. I dunno bout the lag but like posted earlier they say its no problem yall should keep an open mind bout this set up.

a buddy of mine has one on his camaro and there is not that much lag no different than a regular one and there is less heat in the engine bay plus the distance the tube travles it acts kinda like a iner/aftercooler whatever you wanna call it
Another member I know. He runs low 14's on 6PSI.

This is what's called a "remote mounted" turbo. They are awesome. Easy to install, very clean, no need for an expensive turbo header, they have much less lag than one might think and they run very cool compared to a standard turbo setup. It also makes your car look stock, just with a CAI pipe coming from a fenderwell.
The only real problem with them is that you would want to build up some sort of skid pad under them, especially on lowered cars that may rub on speed bumps and high curbs and also to keep water from drenching the turbo housing.
Don't knock it if you don't know anything about it. I would much rather have a remote setup than a standard setup if I had a turbo car.

damn guys....its been on this site Street-Graffiti
and here www.street-graffiti.com
its an awesome setup...you don't have the heat on the turbo that you get when its in the engine bay. Thats what kills turbo cars....heat...the enemy of efficient boost
and if there is enough interest, Dawn will get it made through STS and Stree-Graffiti

Boohoo, why don't you get all upset about it.

Heat Kills a Turbo??
Heat is the enemy?
Idiots are the enemy.
Heat is what Spools the Turbo you asshat.
Heat is Power, Heat Is Spool.
"Expanding Gasses From Internal Combustion"
Expanding is where the Heat comes into the factor.
The hotter the better. If it's so hot it will kill a turbo, your pistons will melt first. They are Aluminium, the turbine isn't. The Turbo is Cooled By Water and Fed by Oil. It's rather safe from heat.
Poor Maintenence, Lazy Oil Changes and not allowing a turbine time to slow before swithcing off "Kills Turbos"

I don't care if you like it. Just don't fill this forum with Bullshit.
That goes against every design consideration of a well planned turbo engine. If there was a "Perfect Turbo Kit" that would be the opposite.
It is barely better than N/A, that is as positive as I will be about it.
Shut the **** up you peice of ****. Where the hell do you get off insulting people that havent said a god damn thing to you? Just because you think something different from someone else, does that give you the right to call them an idiot, or asshat? No, I think not.
If I was within arms reach of you at this moment I'd reach over and break your jaw you little bitch.

Yeah if this was such a good setup then why don't car manufacturers use them in all cars? P7X If Porsche got ahold of this great info they would have to run the turbo to the front of the car and shoot the exhaust out the front, might be sweet.
