here is a link to 08 l61-le5, 07 l61, 09 LAP pinouts save it while you can
Index of /jcchmbrs/css.net/
the pinouts changed between the years but it looks like you can just repin the connectors to work

You only need 3 wires back to the ecu. one wire for each solenoid (other side is grounded). 1 wire for the cam sensor signal. 5v+ and signal ground can be picked up @ the other cam sensor, crank, map etc. Questions, Give me a call. Steve 909 910 3867
Side note; in post #19 the pict of the connector. You do not have take it all apart. Just snap the tpa (Front cover) off and lever
the small tab, the terminal then slips out the back.

The lap is very different than the others as it is direct injection. the connectors, ecu, etc are different. Steve

I got nominated to do a tune on a 2.2 to 2.4 swap. Not much of a nitty grritty details in there as far as the ecm side goes.
As long as the ecm is pinned for the cam sensors and the 2.4 file is on the ecm, it's golden right?

I just used an lap harness but yeah, as long as all the ecm pins are the same for what youre using it should work. The only problem i still have with my car is intermittent p0606, which im thinking may be the app wiring being different on 07 and 08 cars. What year 2.2 is it? For e37s you have to use an 08 file.

HELP!?
I installed a 2009 2.4L VVT from a Malibu into my 2007 Cobalt LS originally equipped with 2.2 and auto trans. I tried loading the OEM operating file from the donor car after adding required pins for rear CMP and both camshaft solenoids as desribed by Steve on connector 2 (black). Vehicle will not turn over with error message for power steering in display and hard fault code for starter relay control fault. I have tried several other operating files including Pontiac G6 with 2.4 from 2008 with no luck. I noticed that the Pontiac file I loaded uses a completely different pinout on connector 1 (gray) and only uses something like the first 58 pins of the 73 pin connector. I found a wiring diagram for 2009 Cobalt LT with auto trans and air injection on a 2.2l with VVT. The wiring diagram is almost identical with the exception of the starter relay control and PNP switch input that would be a simple re-pin of those wires on connector 1. Connector 2 is identical to the diagram of a 2.4 engine. If I understand correctly, I can't just load the software for the 2009 2.2 with VVT because CMP is clocked diffently than 2.4? I am stuck, can anyone help? Thanks in advance, Billy. I can be reached by phone the easiest 559-970-49 six zero.

Only going off of this statement. With stock 2007 OS the car starts and drives but can not learm cam/crank correlation so MIL is on. I drove the car to work with MIL on and diminished power output, can't control VVT. I am ready to load the 2009 Cobalt file for 2.2L that has VVT but the AC Delco TDS site has been down since Thursday afternoon. I was asking before I load OS as I only have a 48 hour pass. they will extend my time as their website has been down. Every 2.4L wiring diagram I look at has a greatly reduced amount of wiring pins used for connector 1 (black). Just asking if anyone has knowledge before I switch pins on connector 1, and load software(hopefully tomorrow). Thanks you again for any input, Billy.

I am slowly figuring this thing out. The fact that I have an auto trans is making things more difficult. The starter relay problem was a simple fix once figured out. The original wiring used power to start relay after going through PNP switch. Re-pin did not fix as it needed to be grounded. Quick wiring change to PNP switch, cutting wire from fuse box and running to ground. Cutting wire from start relay and wiring to PNP switch. Vehicle starts and runs now with power steering message displayed in dash due to 153 MPH signal from TCM and speedo not working. Reflash TCM with same VIN and new software fixed that too. Ran out of time today, think I will need to update BCM and interface module so that brake switch input for TCC will work right. Should be operating on CAN by the time this is all done? I will keep posting as I go and when it's all done I will provide COMPLETE instructions for the next crazy SOB. If I had this all to do over again i probably would have just ponied up the extra money and bought the right engine for my car. I bought it dirt cheap with the intention of selling it and thought I could make a quick buck or two...my time is money though. I was wrong. This thread was the only one I found doing a Google search for the swap and so here I landed. Me thinks only a few will ever need this info but it could prove valuable for that person?

Update
Bring thread alive. I got a 2008 LT that had the L61. Replaced with a LE5 out of a 2012 Malibu. Bought a 2008 HHR 2.4 harness and pulled connector and wires. Unpinned each circuit and repinned in my L61 harness. I used wiring for a 2008 Cobalt Sport which apparently had a 2.4. Removed secondary air injection and replaced with an Amazon header. Also, had to replace exhaust solenoid for vvt, because of connector plug difference. Started car on 2.2 tune lastnight. Ran like I never swapped a motor. Buddy is tuning tonight at my shop.<br /><br />I could of got a new car but finding this forum gave me hope to just have fun.
