Hey all
My 08 LS has been giving me the wonderful P0303 for the past few k mi. Now at 125k mi.
This is a 2.2 L61 5sp stock with fresh plugs & O2 sensors.
Finaly pull compression cold & dry as
160psi 160psi 100psi 160psi.
Poured 5-10cc oil into 3 and got 155psi.
So thinking I have either a broken ring or sticky ring,
I found a 2010 2.2 LAP for reasonable. With marching ecm.
Now the question is the VVT wiring and any other surprises on the engine swap.

Thanks Slowbalt.
Didn’t WolfmanDave do almost the exact but used a 2.4 vs 2.2?

Thanks Bryce.
Yes to your question &
New coils new AC plugs musical injectors, 2 Seafoam fuel treatments, 1 Seafoam spray treatment.
And my TechII still has a slow miss below 1000RPM.
My thoughts are either sticky or broken top compression ring. Most of my history on this Cobalt is over at yourcobalt dot com

If you have access to a cylinder leak down gauge, I'd get your hands on one. It could tell if you if it is valves or rings. That is an easier way than compression testing.

Thanks again Bryce.
Yes
I own one and use it all the time on my Lycoming engines.
I would not expect a bad valve to give such a vast improvement in compression.

Correct. If you have to add oil to get compression up, it' bad rings. Lol

How is your engine transplant going?
You said you used the LE5 out of a 2012 Malibu. Did you use the ECM from the Malibu?
You said you had it in for a tune. What mods web made and how?

Its a daily at this time. I currently have one issue I get a p0606 under weird throttle conditions. Did have a friend flash the factory ecu for the 2.4 since the module is the same part number. I think I need to flash the auto trans for a 2.4.

a/c works blows cool. Throttle opening were changed in the tune. Hell just under a quarter throttle I can tell it has more ***** then the L61.

next mods for me are a manual and a turbo in its future. Ive rebuild the suspension twice and it has 210k miles. At this point just trying to find a good horsepower to daily. Over 300hp I've heard to change rods and pistons. So I'm going to push it na till I build the motor.

-2012 Malibu LE5.
. -had to change exhaust vvt solenoid due to connector difference.
. -Amazon 70dollar shorty header
. -k&n in stock air box
. -stock exhaust
-2008 HHR engine harness took the 2 VVT solenoid connector along with the exhaust cam sensor and wires depinned and repinned into my stock L61 harness.

Yes that code. It's weird cuz if I cruise and don' try to romp on it,... the check engine will go away after 3 cycles and will stay off. But once I try to give it has to downshift, or manual click it down to take off, sometimes it throws the p0606. I' thinking tune related. Tempted to just shut the code off cuz it sends it into limp mode.

flash was done hptuners.

My tuner got it from hptuners file of flashes. They made a 2.4 auto cobalt. It was the cobalt sport in 2008.

P0606 is why I no longer recommend doing this swap. Ive been battling with dead pedal and P0606 for a couple years now.

If you want to use an LAP, the bottom end is the exact same as the L61.

Overwriting a different operating system with HPtuners is what causes P0606 I believe.

Turning the code off still gives dead pedal, just no code.

I thought dead pedal is due to the p0606 being activated. It drives fine unless I go more than quarter throttle. So its weird. I'm still going to give it a shot.

lap is just the L61 with a Le5 head right? That is what I've been reading

If youre NA, id bet that copying the throttle tables from your original tune into your new one will fix your issues.
